Nice spot along the river.
I was a little hesitant because of the RV park, but decided to go check it out anyway. Check in was a little bit of a hassle. They needed to enter all of my information that I had already given to hipcamp into their own system, etc, but finally got through that.
Once you drive past the RV part, the tent camping area is totally separate from RVs. If full, you would be near other people (similar to what you might find at a state park) but for my last minute weekday reservation, I was the only one in my little section by the river, which was nice. At that section, the river was a little hard to get in and out of, but there is another section up the road (“the point”) that looked a little more user friendly.
They used to sell firewood, but didn’t have any when I went, but they were ok with me picking up fallen branches, and one of the people working there brought me some branches on the back of a 4wheeler, which was nice.
Each site had a fire ring, picnic table, and water spigot. You can pull your car right up to the site. There are a bunch of trails around there, that looked like they would be fun to explore on foot or on a mountain bike. Proximity to SA makes it easy to get to for San Antonio residents.
To close for comfort
Beautiful area right on the river, very clean and kept nice.
Unfortunately didn't end up staying the whole night because the campsites were just way to close to eachother and a family actually sent up camp right between us and another camp ( that was already to close ) the wonderful lady at the front office let us move campsites but even when we moved it was just to close for our liking. Beautiful area though and everyone there is so helpful and welcoming!
River views and relaxing trails
Really nice campsite, I’m new to camping and wasn’t sure what to expect when first driving to the Alamo Ranch gates and check-in station. After passing the RV site down a hill to the gorgeous sites I was blown away. Exactly what I was wanting from the trails and views of the river. There were two families to the adjoining sites but that’s expected when the weather’s so nice in Texas. We were all respectful of each other and land. I didn’t see electricity outlets but they may have been at the front. Would totally go again, felt very safe.
Awesome camping spot! My friends and I had a campsite right along the river. We had plenty of space and privacy. We were able to build a small fire pit right next to the river and bought firewood from the site. We also saw some wild turkeys and plenty of deer which was cool for the kids in the group.
Small things to be aware of - they’re going to ask for proof of your dogs rabies vaccinations, there are trains that go by maybe 0.5 miles away that you can hear, and sometimes the numbers for the tent sites are a little hard to see. Nothing that would stop me from coming back!
It was a nice weekend getaway. The host (Lisa) who checked us in was very nice and informative. The staff was curtious and the sites were well kept. We were right on the river and enjoyed walking the trails. My family had a blast.
Sometimes you just need to get away
We were needing a quick getaway from Austin and all the parks were full. So glad we hopped on Hipcamp to find this spot! We didn't end up staying near the water but walked around down there, truly beautiful. The spot we got instead was secluded and quiet and having a water spigot was a bonus. Got a beautiful night's rest! Though it's an RV park you are too far to really hear any generators, it honestly feels even more secluded than the parks (although obviously smaller in scale). Highly recommend this spot and am looking forward to the upgrades they are planning to do.
Great place. You can hear the highway and the trains but the campsites are right on the water and can be very private. Staff is very respectful of space, and very courteous and helpful. Not out in the middle of nowhere but a great place to get away.
