We are a Poll Merino sheep stud and a wheat/barley cropping farm at Emu Downs in the Mid North of SA. We have resurrected this gorgeous old workers quarters  into a rustic, peaceful abode for you to enjoy.

Sleeps four (double bed, single bed and old miners couch). The initial fee is $60 per night, and $20 for each extra person staying in the cabin.

Extra camp sites are available which are charged at $10 per night for 1 person  using either a swag, tent, camper or caravan. (book via our second listing)

There is a flushing external toilet and a bush shower (ie a shower bag, provided). The room with an open fire can be utilised as a  kitchen/living area, and we have provided crockery, cutlery, glasses, kettles, jaffle irons and a camp oven. There is running cold rainwater into the sink. Cooking can be done on the open fire, or use the small camp gas cookers. There is also a gas BBQ with side burner in the open end room. If you are really brave, try your hand at camp oven cooking in the campfire. There is no power, only basic solar lights.    Talk to me about your needs.

Campfires welcome, either bring your own firewood or I can provide for $20 a large wheel barrow load. (book as an extra)   Dogs are permitted on a lead (we're a sheep farm).  Heysen Trail is close by - pick up/drop off available - talk to me about this.

Chris and philip were lovely hosts. The building is fantastic considering it used to be a ruin. Really interesting photos and bits and pieces inside. Had all the basics you needed and our 2 young boys loved the novelty of the open fire and outdoor loo. Its a charming place and you can get to burra and the clare region by car in about 30 min. Really enjoyed it.

Great escape from the city lifestyle.

Accomodation is great, well designed living areas/furniture and lots of old little antique style collectables give rgis place a great vibe.

Peaceful, can see the stars that are not visible from the city.

The dwelling has 12volt lights to living rooms and no other electricity, this is actually a good thing. It means peaceful times. (Just charge up any thing you need and bring an eski).

Kids loved it and its only 30 mins from Burra. Will be back.

Beautiful old cottage, with a lovely view from the veranda over the fields of the valley. Very chill and relaxing: lovely to get out into this part of the state. Four of us stayed in the cottage with another four in two tents out on the soft green grass. Plenty of room for everyone, with big tables inside and out, tons of seating, etc. The facilities are good, with cooking gear, a big gas bbq, cutlery and crockery all there. Definitely recommend it, it's great.

A fantastic place to stay. Not far from Burra and also the Clare Valley this place is set on a beautiful sheep station. Eckerts Old Place a restored old cottage which has basic facilities but this was exact what we were after. So peaceful so stay here. Shower is a camp shower built under the water tower, leave the door open and shower with an amazing farm view. Chris especially, has spent a lot of time on detail. Loads of old photos and antique tables, and chairs. We spent most of our time outside and if you’re there outside of the fire bans you can sit around the fire stargazing. A great place to stay..

We had the most amazing stay in Eckert's Old Place. It was simple and cosy and easy to imagine yourself in a time lapse. It's a lovely view of rolling meadows to stare out at. We had a fire inside and it was lovely and kept us warm throughout the night.

Peaceful little spot and lovely restored building. My family and I loved reading all about the history and looking at the photos. It's almost like a little step back in time. Everything was clean and the modern plumbing was greatly appreciated!
