This campground is located on the Flying J Farm, a sustainable farm where we practice regenerative agriculture growing grass-fed, grass-finished beef, maple syrup, and vegetables, chemical free, no antibiotics, and no hormones. The proprietor is Richard Jensen, a former pilot, professor, writer, and editor, now enjoying retirement as a farmer. Farm products are available to campers for purchase.
The land is described as "250 acres of rolling hills with a lake, a pond and three streams." The road to the campsite runs through pastures so campers may need to open AND CLOSE gates so the cows don't get out, on your way to the campsite. The camping area is located near our developing perennial food forest where we have started fruit trees, nut trees, and berries. A garden of annuals including herbs and flowers is located near the area as well. There is an abundance of wildlife including, deer, water birds, song birds, hawks, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, turkeys, coyotes, and owls.
For campers we offer a 10 percent discount on all of our organically grown farm products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and vegies. Beef includes grilling steaks, hamburger patties, hot dogs, and brats.
New in July, blackberry season has started. Campers are welcome to help themselves to wild blackberries at the edges of the woods and on trails through the woods.
"RANGER TALK". Do you attend the ranger talk when you go to National Parks? You can request an educational experience while you are camping at the Flying J Farm. Farmer Richard Jensen is pleased to offer a short talk and discussion about finding health through food, protecting the environment, and alternative energy as practiced at our farm. Just ask for it in your message while booking your stay, it is free.
Site 1 is in the woods right at lake side. It is fairly private especially when there are leaves on the trees. You can drive your vehicle right to the site. You can bring a small popup type trailer but nothing over 10 feet. There is room for a second car but not right at the site. No RV. The restroom is about 200 steps away.
Site 2 is in the woods right at lake side. It is fairly private especially when there are leaves on the trees. You can drive your vehicle right to the site. There is room for a second car but not right at the site. No RV. The restroom is about 200 steps away.
Site 3 is in the open by the dock. You can drive your vehicle right to the site. You can bring a small popup type trailer. A small RV is fine as well but there are no hookups. There is room for a second car at the site. The restroom is about 100 steps away.
Site 4 is right at lake side across the dam. You cannot drive to this site. Parking is about 200 feet from the campsite. It is fairly private. There is room for a second car but not right at the site. The restroom is about 300 steps away.
Site 5 is in the woods right at lake side. It is fairly private especially when there are leaves on the trees. You can drive your small vehicle right to the site. Very fun, except for the poison ivy
We annoyed our time here. The sites were spread out. We were very loud, I’m sure all night and nobody said anything. That said, if you have an allergy to poison ivy this place is not for you. We stayed at campsites 5 & 6 and it was everywhere. We had 6 adults, two toddlers and 3 dogs with us. Several of us got poison ivy some worse than others and some in the group are not allergic at all. Luckily it was cool enough to wear pants, socks and long sleeves all weekend. We really did have a good time. I just wouldn’t bring my child back as it was stressful keeping her wrangle and out of poison ivy that surrounded us. If you have a sever allergy I would talk to the owner about the other sites. Maybe they have less.
Probably our favorite camping spot in ohio! Gorgeous, private and plenty to do! Biggest problem I have with bigger campsites is there is so many people around and doesn't feel primitive! This place is perfect! Camp spots are graciously spaced! Our pup loves coming out with us! Great place for families or even just getting some friends together and have a great time by the lake! I recommend this place to everyone!
Overall we had a pretty good time, but it wasn't as private as expected. We stayed at site 2. Also, it was a little awkward using the water crafts provided for the campers, because you have to walk through someone else's campsite in order to get to where the boats are.
The lake is huge, but it's extremely difficult to access the water if you're wanting to fish. You basically have to be in a boat or something if you're wanting to fish. We used the boat (so we could access the water and fish from our site) and took a break to come eat, and the host told us when we aren't using it we need to dock it back at site 3. I would recommend site 3 (the one that has the dock and boats at it) before I would recommend site 2 or 1, especially if you're wanting to fish. It's a huge hassle having to use, dock, and walk back and forth from someone else's campsite basically.
Other than the fishing situation, we had a really great time. Campsites were clean and well kept. Might consider staying again.
We returned to Richard’s property and again it didn’t disappoint. It’s still one our favorites. Richard offers free kayaking and canoeing. The bull frogs echoing at night is amazing and hasn’t compared to anywhere we’ve been. We will definitely return.
Very nice campground. Stayed at sites 5 and 6. Nice to be close to the lake and able to use the boats. Definitely fish in the lake to catch.

We had a wonderful time on Richard’s land. There wasn’t really anywhere to swim but we had an amazing time using the kayaks provided, and the fishing was awesome! The farm is beautiful and we will be back!
Flying J Farm is an amazing property. The lake is beautiful and the campsites are spaced out around it to give everyone their own lake view. Richard is friendly and keeps the property well maintained. I hope to come back soon!
This is the second year in a row I have booked Richard’s property to host an annual camping trip for my friends, and honestly I don’t think we’ll ever go anywhere else. The property is beautiful, very well kept, and the cabin/facilities is an awesome amenity that you won’t find at most camp grounds. We had an awesome time and can’t wait to come back again. Thank you for everything!
