Sit on the 12x16 deck, overlook the creek, and listen to the sounds of the woods as the night rolls in. This unique and primitive site includes many essential items and amenities: two camping hammocks, (each with mosquito netting, a rain fly, and an under quilt to insulate against cold weather) as well as a dry kitchen. This includes a Coleman Stove, a grill for the fire ring, cookware, eating utensils, as well as other odds and ends. You barely need to pack a thing!
The 12 x 16 deck overlooks the wetland below. Sit and relax among the trees as you listen to the babbling brook! Set up your own tent and sleep under the trees.
Follow the path down the steep incline, where you will have access to the mountain stream. Pump the fresh mountain spring water at the spring box and use it for washing, doing dishes, cooking etc. There is also and a gravity fed water filtration system so everyone can get potable water. Ever try a slack line? It stretches across a wet land, just for fun. Don't get your feet wet!
Even if you are an inexperienced camper, this is a great opportunity to develop a new skill. Come and try it out.
We are located in Moravian Falls, NC about 15 minutes from hwy 421.

Heading east, you can find several fine wineries and vineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is the Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday.
To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an historic old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public.
To the south, 15 minutes away, is Rocky Face State Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing.
Go hunting for gems at Emerald Hollow Mine, only 30 minutes away. Walk in the river, go sluicing. What you find, you keep.

Merlefest (September 16-19, 2021), a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town.

Elizabeth is very hospitable. The site had everything we needed. Our dog enjoyed it even more then we did!
We had a wonderful stay! We were met when we arrived and given a whole tour of the sites. It's charming and brought out the inner kids in us. There's a beautiful running creek, hammocks everywhere and plenty of fire pits. Some of the highlights were hearing the call and hoofbeats of neighboring horses in the night, playing on the slackline, listening to the sound of the creek and being visited by the dogs that live there, they are all sweethearts. If you're looking for a semi-primative camping experience with lots of play areas to explore, this is the perfect place. Thank you for a great visit, we'll be back!
Happy Hillside was beyond what we needed... and expected! Elizabeth has done such an amazing job with the property. There is a cabin, hammock camp and tent camping. We got to experience the tent camping for two nights and it was absolutely magical!!! On top of that... the communal area and creek running through the property was the therapy we needed! So much character and hidden gems throughout the whole property. We spent an entire afternoon and evening just exploring the property. On day 2, we went to explore some mountains and went on a 4-Hour tube trip at Foothill Outdoor Adventures (15 min away).
As if the property wasn't amazing enough... Elizabeth was an awesome host! She gave us lots of recommendations, taught me some cool facts about some of the plant life/ area and introduced us to her super cool and friendly dogs. Jake (Happy Hillside dog concierge) even hung out with us for several hours around the fire our first night.
I highly recommend this property and look forward to coming back again soon!

An amazing site that includes SO many extras ... you truly need only to bring your own bedding, a flashlight, some dry firewood and voila! You're camping!!! The very thoughtful hosts have included everything else you will need for a wonderful stay. Highly recommend this space and the hosts for campers of all experience levels!

I cannot recommend this site and hosts highly enough. As a solo female camper, I felt incredibly welcomed by my hosts & safe on their land.
The beautiful, well-built deck overlooking the creeks below was the perfect place to setup my dome tent, w\ a lot of room to spare for the table & chairs provided on the deck itself and all the gear that I brought for myself & 2 small dogs. The string lights installed on the deck provide the perfect night-time lighting & I didn't have to use a lantern at all (but do bring a flashlight if you need to use the potty in the middle of the night).
If you don't have a tent, there are 2 camping hammocks installed on the site, with built-in bug screen & rain flies, offering a perfect sleeping option. There is a picnic table & other outdoor seating so you don't need to bring any chairs with you! Directly below the deck is the cooking area which offers the option of cooking on the grate provided inside the large fire ring OR the Coleman stove (and propane!) included with the site (along w/ all the cookware & dishes you will need!). Lastly, there is also a pit-toilet setup (a privacy tent with composting toilet system -- clean and convenient).
The hosts have done amazing things to build 3 private sites & beautiful shared spaces as well and I recommend this place to campers of all experience levels. You will be comfortable, safe and the spirit of the place will leave you feeing renewed!

Thank you Valerie! Your review is a gift, not only for us, but for those who read it. Thank you for your detailed and beautiful description.
The area is awesome. The hammock camping site is cool and overlooks the rest of the property. My kids loved it here!

I'm so glad your kids loved it here, Dave. You all are such a sweet family. I hope that you can stop in another time.
This was a very fun spot for my 5-yo and I to stay - I would say it would be great for older kids to explore on their own, I had to supervise my little one on the ropes and slopes, but we still had a blast!

It was so nice to meet you and thanks for the review. I'm so glad that you had a good time.
Well provisioned unique location.

Your family are obviously well seasoned campers. I love seeing that. Potential guests should take your review to heart, when it cold, dress properly. And by all means, wear boots. Thank you for your thoughtful review.
