9 acres hosted by Leslie S.
This is family land that has been in my family for 250 years. My grandfather was born in a log cabin there in 1895. It used to be very rural. It is now tucked into a vibrant area of northwestern NC near the Blue Ridge Parkway and the towns of West Jefferson, Blowing Rock and Boone.
Anyone who stays at our campsite is helping us save towards building a well and eventually a log home on this property in the future, so thank you!
The campsite is easy to access from a paved road. Road bicyclists will find the road an enjoyable 5 mile road to the tiny town of Todd where there is a general store, a mercantile and a riverside park.

With a new 12' hexapod and 16' deck, we are just re-opening our site for even better glamping! The hexapod has a translucent roof, a window, a locking door, and room for a few sleeping bags. It is on a meadow at the edge of the woods near a paved road. The site includes space for 2 vehicles or one pull-in trailer, plus common area, fire pit table and an outhouse. Or bring your pull-in trailer! Only bottled water onsite.
Our campsite fills a semicircle between the road and reflector stakes near the wood's edge. On a clear night you will see the moon and many stars.
Local traffic only. We are in a friendly rural neighborhood where people will wave or stop by to say hello, at a safe distance, and they don't trespass or steal things.
The nearby New River is slow-moving and shallow, perfect for tubes or kayaks. Bikers enjoy riding the 5 miles along the Scenic Byway, called Railroad Grade Road, to the tiny town of Todd. Two of our favorite businesses are there: River Girl Fishing for bikes, kayaks, inner tubes, maps and fishing gear; and Todd Mercantile which has a great bakery and local artists' merchandise.
When you visit West Jefferson, we recommend Black Jack's for burgers, the Tavern for upscale food, and Ashe County Cheese. West Jefferson is one of the fastest growing towns in the mountains for good reason. It has parking and lots of great restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, antique stores, and community spirit. The locals think it's overrun with outsiders but it is a mix of both.
Boone is a traffic nightmare that we often avoid. Blowing Rock is a delightful, scenic and walkable town, but good luck finding parking. Lansing, way up in the NW corner of Ashe County, is about two blocks long and a delight on a creeper trail greenway.
Don't worry if your phone goes on extended network. Mine works fine here. But if one point of your trip is to go off the grid and bond with nature, we have you covered. We have a notebook of "where to go" and "what to do" listings and maps in our supply bin. Take it in your car while you are local, wipe the laminated pages with our cleaning wipes, and leave it behind when you check out.
Hiking: You may walk down the paved road to the river, but there is no hiking permitted from the campsite property until we develop a cabin and trail. It is private property posted with No Trespassing signs.
But here's the great thing for hikers: we are just 12 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is a variety of superb hiking within a 30-45 minute drive at Mount Jefferson State Park, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, and at Deep Gap or Glendale Springs on the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Our second favorite place to camp is Doughton Park on BRP near Sparta. Great ridge and ravine hiking right from your campsite in a nice campground.)
Most of these very popular recreation areas have no car or RV camping on-site, and the others are too crowded to practice social distancing. Our campsite has no other campers except you! Please make it your home away from home.
