✨ Enjoy camping at North Cedar Moon in the pristine foothills of the Ortiz Mountains, 30 miles south of Santa Fe. We are a newly opened and operating rural off-grid campsite that has expansive views of the Sangre de Cristos, The Cerrillos Hills, and the Jemez mountains. This camp site is private, (meaning there are no other campers around) until mid-June of 2022 when a second campsite will be available to rent on the property. North Cedar Moon is 8 miles away from the artistic and historical coal town of Madrid and mining town Cerrillos.
Do you like to live with nature? So do we! But we live in the 21st century. Here is a solution. Welcome to your outdoor home where the camp site is built of 90% recycled and repurposed materials —outhouse, out-kitchen, out-shower, outdoor living, but all SO IN. Our 210sq ft foot canvas bell tent Includes a super comfortable queen-sized bed, fresh cotton bed linens, towels, two headlamps, battery-powered lantern, and a mix of eclectic, modern, and antique decor. Enjoy the sun, stars, and views, connect with nature, immerse yourself in rural off-grid living and unwind in the Ortiz mountains.
The tent is set up for a couple in the queen-sized bed. We are happy to accommodate up to 2 extra guests inside the tent. Additional guests are responsible for their own sleeping bag, pad, and pillow. You will see adding more guests as an option while finalizing the booking.
The campsite offers an open off grid, outdoor kitchen where we provide you a shade structure with cooking utensils (pots, cast iron pan, spatula, tongs), cutlery, 9 gallons of filtered drinking water, 3 gallons of water for dishes in winter and a foot pump water tank for use in the summer months. We provide a propane bbq, propane camp stove, grill rack over a campfire, plates, cups, dinner linens, glassware, foil, paper towel, french press, pour over coffee maker, bowls, and a platter. There is a table under the kitchen roof to enjoy your meals. There is no electricity, so bring your ice and coolers. Scrabble, boggle, twister, dominoes, uno are available for you to play during your stay.
You have this quadrant of the property all to yourself. We are doing several small permaculture projects sprinkled throughout the land. There is a chance you could run into us building or planting something on the far side of the 15-acre property, but we like to give our guests privacy, peace, and quiet.
🚨Important!! 🚨The unpaved road to the campsite is 3 miles and filled with stones, hence our street name, Stoney Road. We HIGHLY recommend a vehicle with clearance as there are some rocks on the road that are "oil pan busters." There are no street lights on the dirt road; we recommend arriving at the site during the day. After rainfall and during the monsoon season (May-September), the road can be very muddy. We don’t want you getting stuck. Let’s be honest here: high clearance and or 4x4 on your vehicle is recommended.
There is a composting outhouse as your bathroom during your stay. We have an open air seasonal outdoor shower. (May-mid October) Please be mindful and use the soap we provide. The greywater from your bathing feeds the plants. There are three camp shower bags, each hold 5 gallons of water. They heat up during the day and give some heat to the water. We recommend you shower before night falls as the temperatures shift dramatically from day to night.
Do have fun, do respect the space, do have closed toe shoes. Don’t pollute or trash the space. THANK YOU
We remind you that this is a rural off-grid campsite: there is no electricity. We have created this space for you to connect with your loved ones, play games, and enjoy being outside. Read a book! Write a story. Take a day trip. The closest restaurant is in Madrid, 8 miles away. You are responsible for your safety, food, ice, and relaxation.
We have items for sale in a cool, vintage Kelvinator fridge (acts as a vending machine) if you forgot things like batteries, an extra pair of socks, a beanie, sunscreen, eye drops, canned goods, tums, ibuprofen, flashlight, etc. You will receive the key code upon your booking to access items for sale.
Come enjoy the impeccable views, INSANELY spectacular stars, and a genuinely unique, curated, off-grid camping experience.

Patience’s campground was absolutely gorgeous! She had very thoughtful touches throughout all of the accommodations! We would 100% love to camp here again!
The only issue we had was with the amount of bugs, but this was obviously out of her control. Bring citronella candles and bug spray!
Wow! this place is incredible! Was looking for a camping type experience, but needing a break from all the gear prep and breakdown. This was it! Absolutely beautiful views, super comfortable sleeping accommodations, and very easy to use outdoor kitchen. Every moment, from the double rainbow to the birds chirping in the morning was just magical.
The whole place was super clean (kitchen, inside tent, and outhouse) and the hosts were super good about offering options for contact/interaction, but respecting space. 10/10 would recommend! Thank you Patience!
A peaceful and beautiful getaway ~
The North Cedar Moon is a wonderful retreat from everyday life. The space offers beautiful views, very quiet surroundings and a secure place to rest. The living quarters are huge. The queen size mattress was a sweet camping luxury with fluffy comforters. The place also had pillows, extra blankets and a portable heater - which we used and loved! They have an incredible kitchen area, full size grill and a fire pit. We used all of them. The craftsmanship that was put into making this retreat shows their art and care to be able to offer you and I a wonderful experience. Play board games, horseshoes and cards- all provided. The out house was one of the cleanest and cutest I have ever seen. I felt extremely safe and comfortable and at ease the whole trip. We caught a beautiful sunset and were given the delight to even catch the all the stars in the sky! Will certainly 100% be coming back :)
Rocky road to a desert delight
We loved our one night stay at Cedar Moon. Patience was always quick to respond as we prepared to head to the property. A great place to peace out.
The property is really beautiful and it feels very private. There are super thoughtful touches all around the property. Much of what you need
Is there and there is a great “vending vintage refrigerator” where you can purchase items you may need.
It was warm during the day but the shaded areas provided a nice place to hang out. There are sweet outdoor areas to enjoy the views, have coffee or a glass of wine. We we’re treated to a fabulous night sky and meteor shower. Star gazing is much recommended here!
The tent is great and the bed was comfortable. The temperature dropped quite a bit following sunset but we were very comfortable with the extra blankets and down comforter. Again so many sweet touches are here for your pleasure. Lanterns, books, games, water, and blankets to wrap yourself in during the night showers.
The kitchen is well appointed and had everything you need to cook up a feast.
It was great to get a taste of off grid
Thanks Patience for a wonderful getaway!
Beautiful land. The grounds had everything we could've needed and then some! Flies were abundant, as well as some local tarantula hawk wasps - perhaps a netting or extra canopy cover to protect against the sun? Overall, had a really great time and looking forward to our next visit!
Such a great experience!
This is a truly unique experience. A bit of a rough drive up, but my goodness are you rewarded once you get there! Beautiful views, one-of-a-kind amenities, and the feeling that you're far enough away from the world that it's possible to recharge. We had the good fortune of meeting Patience while we stayed here: she and her partner are awesome! Just the type of people you hope own the land you're staying on. 10/10 would stay here again!
