This was an amazing place to spend a night and get a taste of history. Sleeping atop the silo, bats skittering around in the “basement” below, and the very knowledgeable tour of what remains of this historic site is well worth the cost. Highly recommend.
Unique experience, well worth it
One of the most memorable places we've stayed in our year on the road. Gary was so kind to share his history and stories with us. This is a unique opportunity and we'll worth it. We camped on top of the missile silo and the views at night were amazing.
Great spot with a great host
We thought the missile silo would be a fun slight variation on a normal site, and on top it was.
Below the surface though, Gary's lifelong love for and dedication to the history and significance of the place really made this stop on our trip special.
This was an incredible camping and learning experience for me and my husband! We learned so much and will be eternally grateful to Gary for sharing his wisdom and perspective—and for letting the public see a glimpse of this part of U.S. history firsthand. Standing in the silo just where the launch squadron and minutemen stood gives you a feeling that you’d never have in a museum. By far, one of the coolest travel experiences we’ve had. Thank you, again, Gary for sharing your knowledge and this site with the world!
Amazing historical site!
We camped overnight at the silo and toured in the morning - Gary was an amazing tour guide and has such a story to tell! Incredible to see inside the silo and hear about the history of this property and the missile program. Even our three little kids were interested - and Gary made them hot chocolate while we chatted! My three year old later told us that her favorite part of our whole trip (which included White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, and more) was seeing that “huge house with the hot chocolate.” 😂 Thank you, Gary!
The camping facilities are simple - there’s a pit toilet and fire rings on the silo concrete. Gary’s directions made it easy enough to find coming out of Roswell, even in the dark.
Really unique experience, and Gary was really responsive throughout.
Delightful stay and tour!
Our host Gary was communicative and and friendly and so knowledgeable about his property. His directions were clear and helpful and he responded quickly to messages! Our kids learned so much about Cold War history in a way that was interesting and engaging. My spouse and I did too! The area for parking and camping is quiet and dark with great stars visible and we were greeted by a herd of antelope passing by in the morning.
We highly recommend this stay to folks who aren’t terrified of being underground or of heights!
More than a tour, an education!
Not only did I get an amazing tour … I got an amazing education from Gary! What a wealth of knowledge, and really interesting to learn more about the history of the missile and space programs!
Thanks so much Gary!!!
