Overview

About

The 176-acre uninhabited Buck Island is a snorkeler, SCUBA diver, and sunbather's paradise. There are crystal-clear blue waters and 18,839 acres of submerged lands teeming with marine life.

The Elkhorn coral barrier reef that surrounds two-thirds of the island offers deep grottos and labyrinths ideal for experienced scuba divers. Even first-time snorkelers are comfortable taking in the most spectacular marine gardens in the Caribbean Sea. There's an interpretive underwater trail to guide you and educate you about the reef and wildlife. The monument serves as a protective habitat for rare and threatened species, including endangered leatherback and hawksbill turtles.

Split your time between the sea and the shore to sink your toes in Turtle Beach's white coral sands. Swim, nap, or stroll along the beach National Geographic dubs one of the best in the world. Take in the lush scenery and abundant wildlife found on the U.S. Virgin Islands monument 1.5 miles off the northeast coast of St. Croix.

You've got your choice of several charter boat companies happy to sail you over to Buck Island. Spend a full day or a half-day. No matter how long you stay, you're sure to make golden memories and be planning a return before you even leave.
