Surrounding this area is another 15 acres of hills and trees great for hiking, enjoying nature and viewing the beautiful Mississippi River below. There are four unique campsites that are spaced far enough apart to maintain space and privacy. Two of these sites can accommodate RV's or travel trailers. There is a boat ramp just a mile down the hill for boating or fishing on the Mississippi. The city of La Crosse, WI and La Crescent, MN are each only about a five minute drive away. Great River Bluffs State Park and many other recreational opportunities are just minutes away.

My family and I loved camping at the quarry. It was fun to explore and hike around, the views of the Mississippi River were stunning, and our site was nice and secluded. Erica was super friendly and helpful.
Views on views on views!
Hands down the best Hipcamp I have visited (and I’ve camped a LOT!) The Quarry is truly a gem. The sites are beautifully maintained and well dispersed. We were at the Vista Grande site, and it felt like we were worlds away. Erica and Aaron are very hospitable and kind…Aaron even came by to drop off the camping potty we left behind last time by mistake 😂 Cannot wait to return!!!
Tent camping at lime stone quarry
This was my first time tent camping ever. Given the circumstances, everything went as smoothly as we could’ve asked for. The hosts Erica and Aaron were extremely approachable and hospitable. You couldn’t ask for a better host. The site itself does not have running water or electricity, and only has a porta potty in terms of facilities. So just know what you are getting into. Some people may not be as prepared with a more primitive style of camping. Unless you have your camper or RV, then you shouldn’t have to worry too much. But if you are tent camping, then just come prepared. As long as you understand the Limited amenities, then this is the best that you could ask for. It is a very unique site, an Old limestone quarry. The views are probably spectacular, however it was cloudy and rainy during my time there. There’s a lot to do in the surrounding area. I would like to come back one day and maybe spend a little bit more time. Thanks for everything Aaron and Erica!
Peace and quiet
This was our first time camping at the Quarry. The Quarry is just off the interstate, so it was easy to find. The last mile was a little tough due to a steep gravel road and we were towing a trailer. Car campers will have no problem getting there. The Quarry is not clearly marked, so make sure to note the distance given so you don't pass it. We missed the entrance and it was hard to turn around while towing a trailer. Erica met us on site, showed us to our very quiet and secluded spot. They have a port-a-potty on site, wood with a cashbox, fire starters and jugs of water. Even though we were less than a mile from I-90, we barely heard it. The Apple Blossom scenic byway is just a few blocks away, we did hear car/cycle traffic from that road but it was minimal. We barely saw or heard the other campers, so you really get some solitude. The pond frogs and tree frogs sung for hours and lots of birds, even a Mockingbird trying out its frog imitation! Mosquitoes were sparse but knats and no-see-ums were out and biting, so bring some bug spray. Quarry is close to the Mississippi, two Mn state parks, Lanesboro area/ Root River, scenic county roads or a drive to the Wisconsin side of the river. We had a great time and we will go back for sure. Erica and Aaron are great hosts, thank you!
Perfect weekend getaway
A great location with a few different camp sites and an excellent Scenic overlook of the Mississippi River. Our group of 3 had two ground tents and one RTT and we had ample space to spread out and still had a good amount of space around the fire for a common area. There were other campers there and it was quiet and respectful. There was firewood on-site and one of the cleanest port-a-potties I’ve ever set foot in. We met our host in the morning and they were very nice and directed us to a place to see the Mississippi up close. I will definitely be back to try out the other camp sites.
