Overall it was fine for what I needed. As others have mentioned, the listing could be more clear that the shower is just a garden hose and the campsite itself is basically just a grassy parking space off the driveway, but I was aware of that going in.
I was, however, a little caught off guard that the "toilet" was just a 5-gal Home Depot bucket. Not my thing. As someone traveling and sleeping in my car, it's a slight step up from a Walmart parking lot, but probably not worth the $50+ dollars it ended up being after fees.
That said, I do believe if you have a different set up and needs, and have more time to hang out and relax, it could be a very nice stay. The lake looked cool, there's a fire pit, and an extension cord for power that runs to the site.
Don't waste your money
I am a little frustrated with this stay, or lack there of. I was under the impression that there was a shower, and wifi, which is what is stated in listing. These are two big factors for someone who is camping out or van traveling. First, there was no shower; it was a water hose, I'm going to say that again, a hose. Mind you, it is currently 50 degrees at night in Louisiana. Second, and most importantly, there is no wifi; there is not even a cell signal. The "wifi" is so slow, that is is nonexistent, it is unusable, thus should not be listed. I didn't even have cell service to use google maps to leave. Also, there were no lights going to or entering the property whatsoever, it is completely pitch black. On top of this, it is not a campsite, but someones driveway. The spot for parking is just a driveway. Not even cleared out, just an open space among the leaves and sticks. I didn't even stay the night. Complete waste of money and time.
Cajun swamp camping
Damon was a sweetheart and helped me get situated in the dark.
Recommended for smaller rigs… I had a long bad crew cab pulling a 26 foot trailer and it was pretty tough to maneuver in and out of the spot. It’s out in the boonies with a real Cajun swamp feel!
Great host, site is a mixed bag.
This place is in a really beautiful location. Close to Baton Rouge but set back in rural Prairieville, with a very old Louisiana Bayou feel. Damon is Very Nice, and helpful. He lives on a quiet loop on a pond. His little dog is the sweetest. His friends, neighbors and kid are really nice. Downsides are that there is a lot of trash at the property and site. Site is not suitable for rigs bigger than a pop up camper or van, due to narrow, tree lined, small uneven ground areas. Sleep is interrupted by a Very loud generator/motor type noise a few times each night, and very bright lights off the deck of the main house all night. Damon was really flexible about our needs and usage of the property. There's a lot of good to be said about this place, but a few things that just made it hard to be comfortable.
Very pretty area!
Cool spot. Host was friendly and the property was pretty. Had a nice fire right by the water. Fell asleep to owl hoots and a beaver chewing reeds a ways off. Particularly beautiful on a foggy morning.
