Cajun Retreat was a wonderful experience. Relaxing by the bayou, learning how to eat crawfish and blue crab was something I finally get to check off my bucket list. Maria and Timmie are amazing hosts, and it was a great place for a woman traveling alone to feel safe and welcome.
We had a perfect, relaxing week in the Bayou and look forward to coming back. This is the place to go if you want to connect with your hosts. Maria & Timmie are so friendly, hospitable and generous. We shared several meals (so delish) and had fun learning about their family and the region.
We parked close to their house and had the run of the yard, which slopes down to a bayou stream. Our kids loved the rocker and hammock. They did remote school and we remotely worked. Internet works best closest to the house and water.
This was a great launching off point to visit the Whitney Plantation (30 min) and New Orleans (1 hr and 15 min). We also visited the Cajun Village in Sorrento (25 m). There isn't a ton else around that we wanted to visit, but wished we had had time to take Timmie up on his offer to do swamp boat tour (1 hr and 15 m away).
Word to the wise ... this neighborhood has dogs every off leash. They mostly keep to their yard, but for this city girl, it felt uncomfortable to take my own two dogs on a walk by myself (which is too bad bc I normally walk more than an hr a day). The dogs also barked throughout the night several of the nights. It didn't ruin the week or anything and certainly isn't the fault of the hosts, but if you are a light sleeper, this could be a challenge without some white noise machine or something.
If you like to keep to yourself while traveling, this place might not be for you. But if you view travel as a cool way to connect with new people, food and experiences, this will be a rich and rewarding place to stop.

If you are looking to experience life on the Bayou with two of the friendliest and kind people you’ll ever meet, this is the spot for you. To me, the hosts make the location. Timmie and Maria are so excited to tell you about their home, their land, and the customs of the area. We were just passing through and sadly were only able to share one meal in town with them, but we plan on returning to enjoy their company and their all encompassing knowledge of Louisiana!

The setting at the Cajun retreat was amazing! Very peaceful and private with hardly anyone else around. Taking my conference calls on the comfy chair swing right on the bank of the bayou is something I can get used to.
Maria and Timmie were great hosts and it was clear that they put their heart and soul into insuring their guests both have a great time and learn something (probably many somethings) about the Cajun culture. They both really made us feel like family while we where there. The highlight of our visit was Timmie teaching us how to catch Blue Crabs and Maria then cooking up a true Cajun Crab Boil with our bounty. We all loved it!

Maria is the best ! . Just passed through wish we had a few more nights to stay and enjoy.
Wow! Maria and Timmie are simply perfect hosts. So warm, so kind, so embracing, and so helpful in every way! Their sweet spot along a little bayou is pure Louisiana vibe and while it feels so quiet and rural, you are still so close to all urban amenities. The “Cooks Experience” they offer is pure Cajun magic! Campfire, music and dancing, jambalaya and joy. And Maria even created the most amazing experiences for us in and around NOLA, too. We cannot praise them enough, recommend them enough, or thank them enough.

Thanks, it was our pleasure! We recommend hosting these two awesome people; they were respectful of our property and time. They embraced our family and had a fun loving attitude. Their creativity and talents were such a blessing to us. We welcomed them as strangers but said goodbye as friends! They are welcome back anytime!!!
This was an absolutely incredible experience. Maria and Timmie have been such great communicators and they’re hospitality is unmatched. The location was perfect for our huge RV and full water and electric hook ups were available. We woke to an amazing view of the foggy bayou. This place is Cajun paradise! Highly recommended to all.

Thanks Jonathan we enjoyed y’all visit! Safe travels and thanks for the information you shared! Take care of Aubrey and let us know if y’all are ever in our area again!
Peaceful and quiet right on bayou
We loved our time with Maria and Timmie! The property is beautiful and peaceful at the end of a very nice neighborhood, with the bayou flowing by. We loved swinging on their yard swing right along the water and watching the sky change colors as the sun set. So very peaceful and Maria and Timmie could not be more hospitable. We made a shrimp boil together and she taught us how to make gumbo, and we just loved them. Thank you!

We love to share our Cajun heritage and property here on the Bayou! We enjoyed meeting y’all and getting to hang out.
