I have been sharing this magical land for 24 years. We have field and forest, year round creek, hiking trails, outfitting for cross country skiing, kayaking and canoeing, along with rentals and instruction. There are two yurts and a tiny house on our off grid land. 3 season water to structures, carry in winter from main house. Wood heat. Wifi.Socially isolating during covid. Enjoy the adventure! Rent short term or long term, 2 days, a weekend, a week, a month, a season or longer. Newly renovated. With wooden walls all around, kitchen, living room, queen loft. off-grid, outhouse, water at main house in winter. 3-season mi Running hot and cold water in sink. Kitchen cooking gear and dishes, etc. Propane refrigerator. Solar energy, enough to charge laptops and cell phones. Shower house and simple composting toilet next to yurt with hot water. We share the land with another yurt and 2 tent platforms. This is not an appropriate site for smoking of any kind, or for any drinking more than 1 glass of wine or 1 beer. Period. thank you. Yurt Information: This sweet rustic 24' yurt is nestled in the trees, near a year-round stream. With a queen sized loft with overhead view for sleeping, there is room for more mattresses on the common floor, Water in winter comes from the main house ( basement) nearby, there is a composting toilet that you take care of in the yurt’s shower house. Winter shower will be set up in the yurt. The yurt heats with a woodstove, has a kitchen, living room. Off-grid solar power, propane refrigerator. We may be putting in a propane back-up heater. Winter: There is no running water in the winter, though you can carry water from my basement ( with masks) or we can fill jugs for you. If all this works, along with no smokers and not a drinking facility( well, a celebratory glass of wine is fine), then come on along. If you are from out of state, then you will need to quarantine while you are here. When you leave, please clean super thoroughly and make sure you plug in the ultraviolet purifier for COVID, and put it on the corner of the table. Sometimes the next guests are coming before I get back from work. The machine is stored inside the storeroom under the loft bed. It is to the right in a tall thin box. Plug it into the green cord and get ready to leave the yurt your final time, then push just the button on the little white remote control that says 60 minutes. This is the last thing you do. Take the remote to the door and leave it on the edge of the sink. This will clean the yurt. Thank you very much. House manual: Welcome to the adventure. See below for information about yurt, and hiking trails. We share the land with 2 yurts, a tiny house, and 2 tent platforms. You are welcome to be part the community or not. Sometimes in the evening we have a summer campfire up by the main house, or you could have one behind the yurt near your showerhouse. WATER- In warm weather, there is a hose with running water to the outside of the yurt, and running hot/cold water in a sink inside the [xxxxxxxx] winter running water in the yurt (it is an overland hose that gets shut off for winter), you can come to the main house to get drinking water. Go down cellar bulkhead stairway, open door and take white hose (from behind the door) up stairway to ground level and fill your jugs. You can use dolly or sleds to bring water to yurt. The indoor sink in the yurt drains into a bucket in winter (empty every day and before you leave please), and into a drain hose in warmer weather. 3-season shower house -You have a hot shower, sink with hot water, and composting toilet. Just composting toilet in winter. For Winter we will set up a primitive shower system inside the yurt. TOILET- 3-season: If you use the composting toilet to pee, you have to sit down, and please use the hose to wash it down and away. If you use the composting toilet for deposits, you use cocoa shell material to cover. Then you are responsible for maintaining the system: changing the double composting bags (more in the shower house) and removing them to up the driveway on left, to the humanure collection composting area behind the food compost bins , and covering bags with sawdust from the closest [xxxxxxxx] you use the RV toilet under the loft, you are entirely responsible for emptying and cleaning /washing it before you leave, emptying it into the outhouse to the left of my main house. SLEEPING- There is a queen bed and a comfortable cot/couch. I do not do maid service, so you bring your sleeping gear, including a sheet to put over the top of the bed. There is a spare quilt, but we prefer you have your own sheets and blankets or sleeping bag. thank you .At the end of your stay, please make sure the bed is ready for the next person. There are spare sheets under the loft bed or in the corner, in a tub. If you do have to use our sheets, bring the used ones to the (Covid—on the generator shed or porch) non-covid: porch at the main house. Please replace / remake the bed with the yurt sheets with ones from the tub. WOOD HEAT- Woodstove: Vermont Castings Dutchwest. We'll show you the ins and outs. The stove holds the fire overnight, if you have a good bed of coals and then fill the stove with larger chunks of wood. But On super cold nights, I recommend feeding it once in the middle of the night. Before you feed the fire, open the damper which is on the left side of the stove, near the top, do it gently. and of course once the fire is going, close the damper down. Do not leave the area with the damper open. And never leave the front ash pan door open--make sure it is closed well. There are draft knobs on the left door (which is where you feed the stove only), and at the bottom front of the stove. The ash-pan, which you can access from opening the front door, leaving the damper open of course--to empty into the ash bucket outside--use the fire-gloves and pull the ash-pan out towards you with the hook on the iron tool. To empty the bucket-there is an ash-pile (up the driveway, to the left of the three compost bins. , Compost-we are using the pallet compost bin in the middle of 3 bins, and please put some ashes over the compost (no meats please).I suggest bringing some newspapers for fire-building, cuz i don't have enough. And kindling! Please refill the wood pile in the yurt from the woodshed before you leave, or if the woodshed is empty, you can sled wood from my woodshed to the right of the house. watch your head, it is a 5' doorway.....there is a sled with a rope handle that works the best. And there is also a black wheelbarrow but that is not preferable in winter. POWER- there is a solar charger on top of the bookshelf..turn it on with the top button on the left, and hold the buttons down to turn on. for DC, ie charging your cell phone, push second button on in addition to the top power [xxxxxxxx] AC, push bottom button down in addition to the top power [xxxxxxxx] turn off when done. It charges by solar panel ( turn on and push second DC button on, for [xxxxxxxx] it is low on power, it can recharge on a sunny day---push the on top button). turn it off later when charged up to 4 bars. It can also be recharged from the green cord in the yurt, near the bookshelf with the solar charger on top. Turn power button OFF when not in use. Winter WATER: come to the main house to fill drinking water jugs. To the right of the main house, there is the bulkhead to the cellar. At bottom of stairs, just inside the door, is a white hose hanging from ceiling shutoff valve. Bring end of hose up steps to ground level and you can fill your jogs. Then please return it to cellar so it does not freeze, and shut door and bulkhead. Thanks . REFRIGERATION- there is a propane [xxxxxxxx] there is a propane 3 burner cooktop [xxxxxxxx] Please bring compost up to the middle compost bin along the driveway, and cover it with ashes from pile next to it. Please no meat [xxxxxxxx] Please pack out your trash and recycling. The yurt is not serviced for these [xxxxxxxx] This is a pack it in / and pack it out facility. Please take your recycling with [xxxxxxxx] winter-black bucket system in showerhouse. Use sawdust or cocoa shells. You can use 1 tablespoon of poo powder or some eco Gel. SHOWERS- 3-seasons, the one at the yurt can be used. A shower/bath system in the Winter is inside the yurt--you fill a bucket with the right temperature water and use the pump with the orange showerhead. (And then reverse procedure to carry out the water---roughing it in style.) Composting toilet in shower house will work ( bucket system, that you take care of. ) KAYAKS- I have many kayaks, I am an instructor and outfitter. let me know your experience levels, and I will give you a dry land lesson and give you the right boats to use for your skill level, your size, your experience. If you have a way of carrying them, I will show you how to tie them down on your car. Otherwise I can try to be available to transport them for you. WATER- Miller Pond - there is a pond 2 1/2 miles further up miller pond rd--when you get to the T, bear right on miller pond rd, and in 1/2 mile you will see the boat launch on the left. it is not a swimming area, but people do swim there. the pond is about 3/4 mile long, places to explore. Lake Fairlee; boat launch and recreation area called Treasure Island---fee for that one. 1 1/2 mile long lake Lake Morey - boat launch is steep, 2 mile long lake Lake Tarleton - 45+ minutes away, nice. Connecticut River---lots of boat launches. Ompompanoosuc River (off rte 5) (you can go upriver and then down into the Connecticut River, also Wilson Landing in Hanover (rte 10)

Toilet available

Flush toilet, composting toilet. Winter: Bucket composting system with cocoa shells, or sawdust, and eco gel or poo powder. You take care of it. See below. Spring, summer, and fall: shower house just behind yurt. With Composting toilet: You wash down the pee diverter every time you use it, flush it all the way through the pipe. Also, for solids you use the composting bags and a scoop of cocoa shells, and at end of your stay, you seal bag and bring up to composting area, behind the food compost bins is a large wire composting area, cover with woodchips. Replace bags for next person in showerhouse. They are in the square bucket with toilet paper. thanks

Potable water available

Spigot. winter potable water: 250' away at main house , to the right of house, go down bulkhead cellar steps. Inside door is white hose conn ct d at ceiling. Bring it up to ground level to fill your jugs. Then return hose to cellar and close doors ( so it does not freeze). You can use sled or dolly to carry your water jugs back to yurt. During the summer- hot shower , hot water in summer in yurt and shower house, and potable 3-season hose at yurt.

Showers available

Hot water . 8' shower house is right next to the yurt (winter shower is in yurt), , and contains a composting toilet for which you are responsible. [The inside shower is in the corner. It’s a process though. You have to carry water, heat the water on the woodstove in the 8 gallon stainless steel pot. I would suggest not carrying 8 gallons. I would suggest starting with three or 4 gallons, and then mixing hot and cold to the right temperature in a bucket that you can carry over to the shower. Then put the pump into the bucket and turn it on, to get water out of the shower head. Please keep the plastic curtains inside the basin so we don’t get the floor wet. Then after your shower, we suggest putting the pump into the tub and pumping your used water back into a bucket and then carrying it out the door and away from the yurt to dump it. It sounds a bit complicated but it also is an adventure.]

Cooking equipment present

Bbq. 3 burner propane cooktop. Use lighter or matches. Firepit out back, please be careful and use small fires, move plants away first if they have grown up. Charcoal grill out to the side of yurt. Bring your own charcoal, I have just a little. You can also build small fires in that grill.

Wifi available

just turn on the wifi at the main house 250' away, and you can use wifi in the yurt. turn it off when done.

Pack it out

Pack it in, pack it out, for trash and recycling. Do not leave meat wrappers outside. Wash trash. (Prevent animals) except there is a compost bin for non-meat compost. Cover compost with ashes from the left of the two compost bins, on the way up the driveway on the left past the tiny house. . In that area is humanure composting pile Behind the compost bins. Cover with sawdust from third bin.

An interesting experience. The property is lovely and the idea of a yurt is great. The bathroom/shower worked great for us and it was nice to be so close to the river. Overall, it could have been cleaner - one drawer in the kitchen was filled with mouse poop. This made me question the cleanliness of the rest of the place; I was glad I brought my own sheets. Couldn't find new trash bags - it was difficult to understand what we were responsible for and what was provided. The chairs out by the fire pit were broken but we figured out alternatives.

Peaceful tranquility!

To stay here is to immerse yourself into peacefulness and tranquility. The rushing stream sings to you at just the right volume to not only entice you to wander down it's banks, but also helps to put you to sleep at night. The yurt itself is glamorous as well, with all the comforts of home minus a flushing toilet, but that's really not an inconvenience if you are looking to get away from it all; everything you need for a camping loo is still provided for you. If you can find an opening on her popular schedule that fits your desires, you won't be disappointed!

A wonderful stay nestled amidst some really gorgeous land. Stayed here in January and was comfortably warm and cozy in the yurt. Bonna is a great host and knows all about the best hikes and day trips around. A really nice retreat to just relax and be.

Very rustic, if you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. Great hiking trails nearby, we stayed In November with cold temperatures and we stayed nice and warm in the yurt thanks to a great wood stove. Bonna was a good host, responding to any needs.

Our stay in Bonna’s yurt was fantastic! It was a beautiful drive into the site, and the yurt had everything we needed. The compost toilet and the indoor shower worked just fine for our needs. Her directions for all the utilities were very clear and thorough. We can’t wait to come back!

This was a great stay! It was a perfect getaway from technology and retreat to connect back to the outdoors. It was a little tough to figure out the directions of the surrounding trails but nonetheless we made the best of everything and enjoyed our time. The biggest downfall was that we could not figure out the hot-water for the shower. We only stay 2 nights so it was not that big of a deal and we let the host know so hopefully it will be fixed for the next guest. Overall, I would recommend this Yurt!

Perfect for Experienced Outdoorsmen

This place was amazing! We were a little worried upon entry, some of the elements of the site looked a bit unkempt, and we weren't sure what the weekend would hold. But within minutes, we were greeted ecstatically by Blaire, the resident puppy owned by David of the property. The yurt itself was big and beautiful, it was clean upon entry and stocked with wood, kindling, newspaper, a solar generator (wasn't as effective as we hoped, but did the job), a Coleman grill, propane heater, full tank of propane, as well as bedding, dishes, candles, maps, and everything necessary for a cozy stay. That said ***To enjoy this stay you MUST be experienced in outdoor living i.e. making fires, preparing for inclement weather, staying safe at night, and be extremely environmentally conscious.*** As long as that's not an issue, this place will suit you extremely well for a getaway from the outside world.

Staying here was definitely a fun and new experience! The yurts are cozy and warm. Definitely a bit bare boned but if you are here something a little different this is a great spot. Expect to feed a wood fire stove and fetch water from the main house or bring your own. We were grateful there was propane to fire up a Coleman stove but you can also use the wood fire stove for any cooking needs you may have, it will just take a bit longer. The directions are a bit off, so just do your research before you lose service. The yurts are on a large property with a beautiful stream and exploring around is lovely. I would say the whole experience is between camping and glamping! Plenty of wood to go around and to have a campfire yourself. Some of the most amazing stars out there.

20' yurt at the creek

Mixed feelings

24' yurt stay

Bonna was a very helpful host and answered all my questions promptly. The site was great, and the yurts were nestled in the woods and felt very private. We ended up staying in the 20' yurt (there are two on the property) which faced the creek with beautiful views of the surrounding forest and hills. We had the wood stove working throughout the night and kept it very warm despite the 25 degree temps outside. We also loved how close the yurt was to the Strafford Nordic Center--about a 15 min drive. One critique I have is there was a bit of confusion when I booked the yurt. I originally wanted the 24' yurt which had a bit more amenities and was nicer on the inside than the 20' yurt. I was told there were people staying in the 24' yurt and another group in the house so the only available space was in the 20 yurt. During our stay we ended up being the only ones there and no other guests ever showed up. I felt disappointed that we had to stay in the 20' yurt while the nicer one was vacant just a couple steps away. Perhaps the guests cancelled last minute, I have no idea. This was just a little confusing because we were anticipating parking our car up the road and carting everything in, (which would have been a big pain) to accommodate everyone, when in fact this was not necessary. I can't speak for what the 20' yurt looks like in the summer, but in the winter it felt like it hadn't been used or thoroughly cleaned in a long time. This was fine because we were basically looking at it as a camping shelter with access to wood stove. Make sure to bring plenty of headlamps and lights to illuminate the inside. There were a couple of candles and a kerosene lamp, but all had been low on fuel. Overall, we had a great time here. Would love to visit again during the summer and spend time hanging out by the river. Thanks Bonna for letting us stay there. Cheers!
