This campsite is exactly as advertised. It is a working farm, with roosters that serenade campers in the wee hours, and geese that share the beach with you and smiling dogs that bark. If you don’t mind a little extra animal noises, the Sandy Beach 1 campsite is a nice little shady spot near the water. I didn’t realize how close the second campsite would be to us, so it didn’t feel as remote as I would have preferred. The outhouse is clean and nice, (the addition of hand sanitizer would be appreciated), but bring a flashlight during the day as the light only works at night. It is very dark and hot during the day. All in all, if you’re looking for semi remote campsite on a working farm, with great River access, this is it! If you want more remote and have the time- go backpacking. If you want more amenities like water, electricity, and showers, book a traditional camp ground. It really just depends on what you’re looking for. Highly suggest going to Rokabilly Coffee Shop in Carthage just a few miles away for breakfast!
