Rustic Lakefront Cabin/Dock
A cute cabin in beautiful woods. The lake is great for swimming and just a short walk from the cabin. There are neighbors close by so this isn't completely off the beaten track, but this also means that the host Jessica is close by - super friendly and accommodating!

Rustic Lakefront Cabin/Dock
The cabin is really cute. It’s small, clean, and there were clean sheets on the twin bed. They provided an oil lamp and matches which was nice. The cabin itself sits on a hill. It’s not totally secluded but the ferns and moss surrounding the cabin are beautiful. There’s a table that’s good for food prep, and a fire ring. The dock is a 3min walk down the hill. It’s on a great little cove. We had a really fun time floating around, swimming, and jumping off the rock across the cove. At night the fireflies were amazing(and the stars). A bald eagle swooped down and caught a fish right in front of us, then retreated to the tree by the dock to enjoy her lunch. Really beautiful wildlife and location. My suggestions for improvement would be the outhouse and kayaks. The outhouse is by the cabin. It’s pretty dismal in appearance and could be greatly improved with a cleaning and a touch light. A toilet seat would be nice too. The kayaks were inexpensive to rent for the duration of our stay. However, they’re stored outside(on the ground) by the doc and many little creatures had made them their home, including a gigantic spider (3 inches with legs) with a big egg sack. No fun to see that crawling towards you when you’re paddling on the lake! Sense they’re rentals, it would be nice if they were in better condition or included with the cabin in the condition they were in.

Cutest hillside cabin ever and the lake is gorgeous. Wished we could have stayed longer!

Rustic Lakefront Cabin/Dock
Meh
The Wallenpaupack Cabin was nice, but a little less isolated than would be ideal for such rustic conditions. The overall experience was as expected and lovely. Nice campfire, beautiful lake, and a cabin as described. However, we did visit shortly after some rain and because the cabin and driveway are located on a hill, the runoff caused some pretty serious mud. I would not recommend trying to drive a non-AWD vehicle back to the cabin when it’s muddy. It also made unpacking supplies pretty difficult as we did not expect the driveway to be so far below the cabin/campfire area, meaning you have to carry things up the hill to the cabin. Not a problem per se, but would be good to know. We would’ve probably packed differently. Also good to know, would be that the cabin does not sit directly on the lake. The lake isn’t even really viewable from the cabin. However, once you do make it down to the dock it is lovely. Though not exactly a great swimming spot off the dock. We learned that the area the dock sits is called party cove and there’s a lot of boat traffic during the day. With the exception of early mornings, that also means that it isn’t the best fishing spot because of the noise. Nonetheless, we enjoyed sitting on the bench and watching a bald eagle fly over the lake and a duck and ducklings swim around. As I mentioned, the cabin isn’t particularly secluded. You are more or less in a neighborhood with houses on two sides of the cabin, included the front where you look out. You basically look into the neighbors back window and onto the deck. In fact, we got to know the neighbors because their waterline runs directly next to the cabin and they came over to inspect it when they were having some water issues. Lastly, it was nice for Jessica to offer a late checkout. However, less than ideal when the offer was rescinded a few hours later. We had no problem leaving at a normal time, but definitely could’ve impacted our plans. Overall, it was a good spot, but the attraction for us was that it wasn’t a campground and potentially would offer more privacy. For us we probably could’ve found the same level of privacy at a campground or state park that at least offered a few more basics like a grill rack and bear-tight trash cans.
