We had an amazing time at Norwegian Wood! We got there too late to try out the restaurant (next time!) but got to meet the new Highland calf in the pasture, play a round of golf on the par three, and take in how gorgeous the property is. Rene and his team were beyond accommodating (we booked last minute!) and the lodging was perfect. We are already looking forward to our next stay and are so grateful to Rene and the team for such a wonderful experience!

Friendly hosts & beautiful property
Most friendly HipCamp hosts we have met so far! They upgraded us from a tent to a cabin bc it was raining so much during our stay. And their handyman, Eric helped bring our bags from our car. Our kids loved how wild the ranch was especially “fishing” in the beautiful stream that runs through the property. Unfortunately we couldn’t try the little golf course bc of a bad ankle sprain but hopefully we will get to come back and do that.

I loved glamping out here! Came at a really lovely time of year weather-wise and thought the ranch was absolutely gorgeous. Got to enjoy live music at the grill nearby and absolutely adored our cozy stay in the tents. Was the perfect romantic birthday getaway for my boyfriend.

Cabin in the Woods / on the Farm
Great stay. Made a reservation and had a wonderful dinner. Everyone was warm and welcoming. We took our dog on a walk around the property and encountered a lot of deer and a very large pig named Bacon. Comfy bed and was nice and warm with the heater. Great experience in the cabin.

We got in after 6 but Rene popped out to say hello and make sure we were okay. The restaurant is closed during the week, so if you are onsite for a mealtime, you’ll want to plan ahead a no cook option. We used this as a one night break from our camper van, so we just walked over to the van in the parking lot to cook dinner. It was colder than expected overnight (~40) but the bed had two comforters and we were perfectly warm as long as we stayed in it! Bacon the pig was very friendly and wished we could have seen the cows!

Very accommodating hosts! We were coming from glacier and arrived later than expected, they upgraded us to the cabin due to the chilly weather and even had the space heater ready for us. Perfect place to stopover after a long day and drive. Thank you!

Idyllic, Peaceful, and Comfy
My stay at Rene's ranch was idyllic. Cooking under the stars, a cozy tent with a comfy bed, a gorgeous setting, and Bacon the pig was awesome. It was great to be able to have access to the restaurant bathroom, and the camp shower was excellent. Rene also gave me some great local tips and helped me out immediately when the lantern in my tent died, even though it was late at night. Hope to come back one day soon!

Overpriced
Shower barely works, porta-potty was SO full of waste, and it’s not very private. We actually enjoyed the area off the property more (the lake etc) and would stay at that campsite if we’re ever back in the area. This stay was just not worth the price.

This is one of the coolest places I’ve stayed! Not only is it gorgeous, it’s so unique and fun! Not only are the glamping tents adorable, we loved the restaurant, live music & golf course!! Not too mention Bacon! The tents were so great, and one of the comfiest beds I’ve stayed in! Loved it all!

Everything was as expected. Rene could not have been nicer and more helpful. The shower was a bit rough at first but it worked fine for both my wife and I. We would return if ever in the area again.

Worth the price ??
The property was surrounded by a beautiful landscape full of wildflowers & mountains! Our tent was clean, functional & unique. However, we never met our host during our entire stay (even though there was supposed to be a meet & greet) which really hindered our experience. Rene communicated well that we were allowed to roam his entire property which would have been nice if we knew what was his property, so we only got to see about one mile of it. We also wanted to swim at the swimming hole on the property because the beach areas were packed full of people or charged to be at the beach, but when we asked the host where it was he communicated that the closest spot was the local Jo Bonner campground down the road. The host owns a wonderful piece of land that offers a lot to do, we just wish our stay would have allowed us to have that experience.

I LOVED my stay here! I really enjoyed roaming the beautiful land with my dog and a cup of coffee in the morning- the pond and waterfall were my favorite spots. The bed was very comfy and I slept like a rock. Rene has really thought of everything is super friendly, which I appreciated. After doing a lot of camping and driving it was really nice to treat myself to a 'glamping' experience and sleep 'indoors' in a real bed. Would definitely reocomend. :)

Rene's place was super cool and very unique. The tent was lovely and comfortable, and the land was beautiful. We were able to grab a beer at the on-site bar when we showed up, and chatted with Rene for a while. He's a great host and they've got an awesome spot!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Norwegian Wood Ranch Glamping sites- our canvas tent was very clean and well put together with everything we needed. There was fresh water, good lighting, trash, and the bed was great. We really enjoyed hanging out at the on site bar/restaurant the night we arrived, as well as exploring the farm during the day (and meeting the Scottish Highland Cows)- Rene the host is really great and a pleasure to chat with.

I've driven through Helena a number of times, but never once have I stopped for more than coffee or gas until visiting Norwegian Wood...and I'm so glad I did. Once out of the center of town, the countryside scenery unfolds and takes you along the winding perimeter of Canyon Ferry Lake, Montana's third largest body of water. As I pulled into Norwegian Wood, I was warmly greeted by Rene and his 6 month old labradoodle, Willow. Rene directed me to my tent and encouraged me to explore the property, telling me where I could find the golf course, the small fishing pond and all the different animals that call the ranch home. The tent was clean and cozy, and you could hear the creek trickling by steps away from the front deck. A trail follows the creek up to a small dam & fishing pond, and my pup Dylan and I enjoyed splashing in the water on the hotter-than-normal afternoon. Wild turkeys wandered the property, and Dylan and I made frequent visits to the resident mascot, Bacon the pig. Rene was also kind enough to give us a ride on his atv so we could find his Scottish Highland cows (moments after meeting him, I excitedly told him how it was one of my goals to own a mini Scottish Highland one day). As we drove around, I noted how many great camp spots there were with panoramic views of the mountains. The four glamping tents share an outhouse and a propane-run shower, however you can also use the restroom at the restaurant on-site when it's open. As much as I love a good camp meal, the Highland Bar & Grill is steps away from the tents and serves dinner Wednesdays through Sundays; wine, mussels and steak sure do complement a glamping experience. With tons of hiking in the Helena National Forest, boating and fishing in nearby Canyon Ferry Lake, golfing on the ranch, the bar & grill, and the center of town not far away, you could really make your experience there as relaxed or active as you wanted it to be. It felt like the perfect place for a little romantic getaway (either with your partner or just solo...cause sometimes you gotta treat yo'self). I can't wait to go back in the springtime and see the ranch all green and lush...and hopefully with a couple more baby Scottish Highland cows.
