Beaver Island is home to two unique rustic campgrounds that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the unspoiled wilderness of Lake Michigan’s largest island. St. James Township Campground, located on the northern end of the island, offers stunning views of Lake Michigan and is just a mile from the harbor and town. This campground features 18 primitive campsites, some equipped with electrical service, all nestled in a breezy pine grove above the beach. Campers can enjoy hand-pump well water, pit toilets, and four outdoor hot-water showers, perfect for rinsing off after a day of adventure. The breathtaking vistas of Garden, Squaw, and Whiskey Islands enhance the camping experience. On the east shore, the Bill Wagner Memorial Campground (Peaine Township) provides a secluded retreat with 22 sites along a tranquil bay of Lake Michigan. This off-grid campground emphasizes a back-to-nature experience, offering rustic tent and RV sites complete with picnic tables, fire rings, hand-pump water, and vault toilets. Here, campers can truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
