Originally known as St. John's Township, Missouri Valley was established in 1871 after residents recognized the potential of the newly constructed railroad. The city quickly grew into a vital intersection for three railroads, including the Cedar Rapids, the Missouri River Railroad (later known as the Chicago and Northwestern), and the Sioux City and Valley Railroads. This strategic location fueled rapid economic growth, and by the early 1900s, the population had surpassed 4,000. Today, Missouri Valley is a thriving community that boasts a strong public school system, an active Chamber of Commerce, and a variety of amenities.
