This amazing and beautiful property has a neat history as well, including a cattle ranch, logging and even a gold mine dating back to 1902! Many of the mining/logging/ranching roads have recently been graded. The property is mostly rolling hills with a neat steep hiking trail to the top of the mountain which brings you to the top of the property that joins the 140 acres of BLM land. Downer Ranch perfectly situated within a 30-minute drive to Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park Entrance! Within 30 minute drive we have lakes and rivers for year round fishing. WE NOW HAVE PRIVATE OFF GRID CABINS!!! Look for our cabin and events listings :) Welcome to Downer Ranch Agricultural Tourism Property. We offer a wide variety of agricultural experiences. Enclosed Outdoor CedarZen Shower, Outdoor eating area (Currently Under Construction) with seating with solar lights and a BBQ that offers both Charcoal and Gas grilling options :) Mine Hill Tiny Homes and Cabins are now available. Please message us for their availability and related fees. We currently have 9 horses, 2 sheep, 2 dogs and 2 cats that are free to roam the property. The horses love any candy that is peppermint or sugar cubes and the likes. FYI- That is how you win them over :) They probably won't leave your side after! Fruit/veggies are their last choice. Think of them like children. What would your kids prefer? But yes, they need healthy snacks too! Downer Ranch is situated on 72-acre 100+-year former cattle ranch and gold mine that is fully fenced with 3 cattle corrals. We are an animal rescue and sanctuary that also operates an agri-tourism campground, equestrian and hiking trails throughout our entire 72 acres along with another landlocked 140 BLM acres accessible at the top of the mountain. Currently 9 horses liveonsite are completely free to roam, so please be mindful when sharing their home and please remember to secure the gate when you enter and leave the property, they are escape artists!

Downer Ranch Animal Sanctuary
The campsite had lots of open space and had a really nice outdoor shower. The location was great for exploring Kings Canyon National Park during the day.

Book if there’s no other vacancy
There’s wasps, we got stung. There are horse stools everywhere. Ports potty bathroom and outside shower. For $85 it is definitely not worth. Place was also not easy to find. However since the price is high, there are many open spaces, book if there’s no vacancy anywhere else. Also closest market is 20minute away, so make sure you pack up. I get that I’m being extra picky, but for the price common.

Animal Sanctuary didn’t disappoint!
We loved our stay and wish we had more time! We rolled in just after the sunset and chose to find a spot on the back part of the property - well just our luck, we picked the spot that the horses like to chill in! It was really cool to wake up to all 8 horses kickin’ it outside our tent, with wild turkeys tooling around nearby. The land was beautiful, the location easy to find, and we’d love to come back.
