My spot was lovely and quiet. Watching the cloud/fog layer creep over the mountain tops in view during sunrises and sunsets was wonderful.
Chris' knowledge of the human and natural history of the area was profound.
If you need a getaway from the city that is close by, this is the place.

We stayed just one night at The Lodge at Deer Creek and it was exactly what we needed. We arrived late, found the spot easily, and settled in without any issues. The place was very quiet and peaceful — perfect for a simple overnight stay.

This is a simple and beautiful site. There is some neat hiking right from the site that I only explored a little due to having a one year old in tow. Hoping to hike and explore more the next time around. Chris is a great host and a character! He cares a lot about helping you get the most out of the site. If you’re looking for an easily accessed simple site within an easy drive of LA, this is it. As others have said, it does have little to no shade. Having a shade tent or a tarp is a good call. We had a shade tent that made it very pleasant even on a warmer day. Enjoy!

Spectacular views & a side of quiet

The views are spectacular! Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Nice and quiet. Just a few miles from the beach when you want to change it up a bit. We had a great time just hanging out and relaxing. We came well prepared for the primitive camping, so the only drawback was little to no shade most of the day. Fortunately, we had an EZ Up, and all was fine, and the nice breeze that blows kept it pretty comfortable.
Pam and Chris were great hosts and made sure we enjoyed our stay.

A safe, quiet, beautiful place to camp near Malibu! Sunsets here are amazing! Our 35 ft school bus made it up and down the steep roads safely (though it was a feat).

The property was nice and secluded but it was just a lot with zero amenities and did not seem worth the price paid. There are a lot of burrs which made it hard to spread out and be comfortable especially for my Maltese dog who had a hard time walking around.

The post is generally accurate, but given the price point the owner requested for this stay we expected some basic nice-to-haves that were overlooked. Really all that is provided is a cleared patch of field to set up tents on - there's no signage from the road where to turn into and the only seating that was included in the site was a wooden hanging bench that had broken and was just lying on the ground. Would have been reasonable for like 30 dollars.

Middle of Night Unexpected Guests

The campsite once we found it had a great view. It would be helpful if the host placed an identifying marker or sign at the site to help confirm for the guest. We were under the impression that the camp site once reserved was for my group only. At midnight while our group was asleep a car arrived and when confronted said they had a reservation for the site as well. We were not aware of additional reservations. My group was all awoken by the arrival of others and it really scared my son, friend and myself to have to confront new arrivals in the middle of the night while also being in the middle of nowhere. Once it became understood that the visitors were campers and seemingly nothing else my group was able to get back to sleep but we first had to deal with car lights and the noise of setting up camp. Overall really odd and although it did not destroy our experience it was unnecessary and better communication with everyone is needed.

What a beautiful site! Truly a magical drive up the hill and such a peaceful, undisturbed piece of land. From our site, you could see the ocean on one side and mountains on the other. Camp was quiet and great for hosting a small birthday party for me! So close to the beach. Chris is wonderful and accommodating!
Only note, road to get to the campsite was a little rocky so I didn’t feel comfortable doing it in the Prius but any car with more clearance did great.

Chris and his family are amazing hosts. We had a wonderful time at the Lodge, watching sunset, feeling the bliss. Just peaceful. Good for a small group (<8) or solo camping. Chris is building the restrooms. Will be more than happy to come back!

We didn’t end up staying overnight at this sight. There was a light at a neighboring property right next to the site that was so bright, almost like a spotlight. It didn’t feel secluded and we weren’t confident we were in the right spot. We didn't reach out to the host to tell them we'd be arriving late, that's our bad. But it was really hard to know if we were in the right place with all the fog and arriving in the dark. We messaged the host but they didn't get back to us until the next day (which was expected because it was already late evening). I recommend having some clearer instructions and pictures, or some signs at the site so guests are sure. To be honest, we were pretty disappointed that there were a few houses nearby with bright lights. We were hoping to escape the lights from the city. Not what we were expecting based on other reviews and photos. Again, we didn't stay overnight so can't speak to how the site looks in the day. If you plan to stay here, know that, while there is a lot of open space, there are a few houses with bright lights nearby. Also I recommend asking for additional instructions in case you arrive late.

It is a beautiful spot overlooking the mountains and ocean. To find the spot, use Google Maps, as it’s a more accurate coordination point. The place is a bit pricey because it lacks amenities like portable toilets, trash cans, or fresh water. However, the location is almost silent. You can hear cars, but it’s not a busy street. If you go in April, it will be hot at noon and cold and windy in the evening. There is no shade, so be prepared. Overall, it’s a fantastic camp spot.

I’m mixed on how I feel about this spot. The views are amazing, but centered around junkyards and shanty town houses. Luckily the road is very low traffic, but the directions and signage was horrible and I’m still not sure we were we were supposed to be. The highway is not passable for large RV’s. It too windy and steep with no turn around areas. If your tent camping, it would be great. Pull trailers, Rv’s, 5th wheels stay away. You’ll get into a bad situation. It’s very quiet and our dogs had fun running around free as birds. We needed some peace and quiet and felt we eventually got that. No great hiking that we could find, but the nighttime sky was incredibly clear and the stars were bright and shining. The pad were we ended up was also very unlevel, which always makes more work out of setting up.
Again, not sure if we’d go back because of the problems, but had a good time even with the problems.

If you wanna be alone, really alone, this is the place. Great views, just a few minutes to PCH, beach, food, shopping etc. It is primitive. I would not recommend for large RV’s.
But was looking for a couple days solo in a tent, and this was perfect. There’s even halfway decent phone/data reception, that may be a plus depending. Good place to throw a tent.
