Desert Maui Camp Site
Overall location is great, but this campsite is definitely not as advertised, and I was worried about this as I saw another review that said the same thing. It says there is a hot shower on site. There is a shower, and what looks like a water tank, however there is no water heater or water flowing into any of the spouts for either shower or sink. In addition, it says each campsite comes with a gas BBQ and gas campfire. Our site had neither, but the other sites did. For $60 / night I would expect more.

Alright, so the bungalow is a very nicely located shed on a fairly rural piece of land near Joshua tree. The property is representative of the desert beauty of that area and the bed is VERY comfortable!
That being said, it's clearly a work in progress and most of the listed amenities were not functioning. I don't mind roughing it, but I DO mind paying more for a hot shower and running water and a finished lodging if those things don't actually exist. The host should not be charging full price for what is basically a campsite with curtains. I was particularly disappointed that he did not even try to make it right or offer a partial refund when we discovered the broken shower and other issues. We're happy to pay for our stay, but to charge full price for a site that doesn't match its description is greedy and irresponsible.
Issues we encountered:
Host is remote and has NO idea what's happening on site. Told us he "thought" shower was fixed. Was not.
The jute rug in the bungalow seemed to have been drug across the desert? My partner and I both got large cactus spines in our feet immediately after taking off our shoes. Beware - Keep your shoes on till you get in bed!!!
Shower set up was completely disconnected/non functional.
Solar lights barely worked. Lots of half-assed construction
Sliding door is so crooked doesn't close at the top. A problem when it's winter temps and there's no heat inside.
Construction materials were scattered everywhere. Hasty and incomplete.

Awesome campsite! So grateful Paul shares his land in such an amazing place. Super easy to get into town and the park while still feeling like you’re in the middle of nowhere (because you are). The stars are insane and we will definitely come back.
The only downfall was no functioning propane tanks. One was basically fused shut and wouldn’t open and one wasn’t compatible with the fire pit. It got cold but we managed. Most sites don’t even offer propane fire pits and I know that’s a costly amenity to offer, so we weren’t bothered.

The site and land were beautiful. The location was easy to access. Unfortunately felt a bit too expensive for what it was. This was a plain, no frills camp site. A pic nic table and a few chairs and that was it. No fire pit. Turns out couldn’t have fires anyway. There was a sense that the property isn’t maintained regularly, or hadn’t been recently. There was trash strewn all around the property. Couldn’t go 10’ without seeing a plastic bottle, or camper trash. Very sad and not what you want to see in such a majestic place. It says pack in pack out, but there are 2 trash cans that are clearly being used and going unchecked by the owner, blowing trash around in the desert winds. The shower which was beautiful, also looked like it needed some love. No hot water, which was fine, but should advertise as such. Lots of construction debris around due to multiple build projects in different levels of completion. Didn’t meet hosts. Didn’t seem anyone was on the property when I arrived. For the price expected just a bit more. Seems like the property has the right idea, but hasn’t exactly hit the mark. Gorgeous sunset & sunrise. Wouldn’t repeat.

This site was gorgeous! We absolutely loved the scenery and having more space to ourselves. The location to Joshua Tree National Park and the nearby towns was great. So easy to book, and clear directions to and from the site! Would definitely go back!

This site was pretty average I would say. It's a bit out in the middle of nowhere, which is great if you want to see some stars! I would recommend having either a four wheel drive vehicle or at least a car that can handle dirt roads. They have BBQ grills and gas fire places available, but we never used those. Nice touch though! I was incredibly surprised out how clean the porta potty was during our stay. We had a TON of coyotes around us, which we thought was very neat, but maybe something to consider if you are camping with kids that might get scared.

The campsite was convenient, as was the shower. When we arrived, there was no BBQ, no gas fireplace, only 1 chair, and a smashed wooden chair. Shower heater is broken, but the cold feels nice in the heat. There were construction workers on the property building a tiny house starting at 9pm. Honestly, them shining their bright lights into our eyes was more annoying than the noise. Wasn’t a big deal, but a heads up from the host would have been nice. Also, we checked out the other campsites and they weren’t in very good condition. It’s a cheap site and gets the job done. But bring your own stove, chairs, etc. since the amenities listed are wrong.

Great spot close to Joshua tree. Excellent amenities including picnic table, chairs, bbq, shower and bathroom. Sites were spread very far apart and everything was easy to find. It was really windy during our stay but that’s just the Joshua tree weather.

We had a decent experience at Desert Rose. On Saturday there was some construction happening right next to us that was a little loud for several hours. I would have liked a little heads up before booking. There was also no clear direction to get to the actual campsite, just an address to a home that was not near it. Luckily, the homeowners were able to lead us there.

This is a lovely place for a romantic evening in the desert. We thoroughly enjoyed the sunset...it kept getting more beautiful every minute! The Adirondack chairs were perfect for viewing the sunset with a glass of wine. We were the only campers, so it was relatively private. There is a house in view but we parked our Jeep in front of our camper for more privacy.
The only slight negative was the shower didn't have a door or window covering so the wind blew into the shower area and it was cold despite the warm water. It wouldn't have been an issue on a warmer evening.

Had a great trip. Land was private. There were chairs, gas grill and gas fireplace. Bathrooms were clean. I did not take a shower but I did turn it on to see if it worked. I did see a coyote in the am. Keep your dogs on leash due to coyotes and potential for rattlesnakes in the area.

We loved our spot! The tent is facing west so it was perfect for the sunset. Especially cause there is any construction that way. Only nature! There was a little trash around the bathroom - porta-potty - not sure how often the land is cleaned. Also, an extra blanket would be nice. Nonetheless, we will be back.

We had a great time camping on Paul’s Land! Fire pit and barbecue were great to have. Bathroom and shower were very clean and much appreciated! Would definitely come back!

Second time I’ve camped there. Loved the site. The stars are fantastic and it feels very private. Only note - I wish that they had a dumpster to take your trash out on-site.

Great spot to camp. It was so quiet and peaceful. The stars were amazing! The campsite is equipped with a gas fireplace and gas grill. It was perfect for our stay. I would definitely stay here again!

Nice car camping setup for the desert. We unfortunately arrived on a very windy day, so couldn't even set up a tent and opted for sleeping in the car. The propane tank was also empty (which we were told in welcome info was a possibility) and tried 5 places in town, all out! It was actually too windy for any type of fire for us, so a-okay, but something to consider!

Awesome place to setup a tent and enjoy the outdoors in Joshua Tree. Booked the same day since all other sites in JT were booked up. The location is awesome. We had the whole place to ourselves. Clean outdoor Shower and porta potty style restroom. Our site (Rose) had a propane bbq and propane fire pit. Had a chance to use them both in our 1 night stay. Would definitely recommend.

We loved Paul Fs land! So epic to be surrounded by Yucca Trees and stars 🤩 can’t wait to come back for warmer weather. Worth the 45 dollars a night u shan’t be disappointed ;)

The site was absolutely gorgeous. It offers the same beautiful scenery as JTNP. It feels remote even though town is close by for any necessities. We saw a coyote driving in, which was cool. The campsites are decently spaced out for privacy & was quiet. We were informed after booking that fires were no longer allowed in the area, but were pleased to be provided with a gas fire pit, because it gets chilly at night. There is also a gas grill & table/chairs provided. I only quickly scoped out the shower facilities and didn’t test them out, but they are there. I didn’t notice a toilet, but I may have overlooked it. There are no trash receptacles on site, so it’s a pack in/pack out facility. Overall we really enjoyed our stay & would stay again.

Paul's land was beautiful. It was spacious, private, and secluded without feeling too far from civilization (easy access to grocery stores, etc.). VERY close to the National Park! It got VERY windy though, I'd definitely recommend preparing for that possibility if you're planning to car camp with a tent. Nice gas fire pit/grill setup and good signage to find your campsite.

The location was awesome. Secluded, pretty quiet, great view of night sky and surrounding mountains/desert, Joshua trees all over the property.
The listing definitely didn’t match what was available. Showers and sink were inoperable- they were completely missing a piece to plug the water pump into the power source. Trash cans were overflowing. Also the GPS coordinates listed do not take you to the right spot, they take you about 30 minutes in the wrong direction near a military road. Use directions based on surrounding streets- pretty easy to find.
Great spot to book if you just care about location and not what’s offered.

The land was absolutely beautiful and an amazing place to watch the sunset. The Joshua Trees are magical and there was a grill and gas fire pit to keep us warm and fed. Unfortunately, the bathroom was unkempt and full, the sink and shower didn't have any running water and the garbage was overflowing with previous guests' trash. We felt very safe here otherwise.
