Sis Q Ranch

· Fort Jones, Siskiyou, California
43 acres hosted by Tom & Jan B.
1 lodging site · 3 RV/tent sites
If you are a hiker or biker (pedal or gas), kayaker, quiet time reader or anyone wanting to get away from city lights and noise (we do have occasional farm machinery noise) you'd love visiting us in Scott Valley, Siskiyou County, true Northern California! Sis-Q Ranch is a small working ranch that is 9 miles from our nearest town of Fort Jones (Population 660). We have limited tent space that is shaded most of the day with access to tiled bathrooms and hot showers. It is filled with wild birds surrounded by hundreds of agricultural acreage. Wildlife of cougar, bear, coyote, bobcat, raccoon, skunk, etc are our local neighbors. We are quiet, secluded, and off the beaten path. We are family & pet friendly. Our night sky has been rated as the darkest possible providing an absolutely clear view of our universe! Come watch the Space Station on some evenings!!!! We even offer free firewood for a campfire, though there is no grate for cooking! Sis-Q Ranch is located in the mythical State of Jefferson. If you love the outdoors, you can hike the beautiful Marble Mountain Wilderness, explore forest trails on your mountain bike, or cycle the historic roads and byways of Scott Valley. Swimming is offered on the Scott River a few miles from the Ranch or at smaller streams nearby. If you love history, Scott Valley has opportunities to learn more about the Old West. Our Valley was formerly known as Beaver Valley, and played an important role during the settlement of the West. Fort Jones was a military establishment, and the entire area was very active during the Gold Rush. Many historic sites are found in and around the local communities of Fort Jones, Greenview, Etna, and Callahan. The Fort Jones Museum holds a lot of information about our two local native American tribes: the Shasta and Karuk. It is also famous for its fabulous collection of rocks and minerals.

Tom and Jan were so friendly and welcoming. We had a great stay in the yurt, really enjoyed the landscape (especially nearby river swimming holes), the brief flurry of bats at twilight, and an immense night sky.

Sis-Q Ranch Yurt
I loved visiting Tom and Jan's farm! The Klamath National Forest is such a hidden gem. The mountains surrounding the property are beautiful and so peaceful. The property itself has everything you need, Just a short walk away from the yurt and campsites, there is a full bathroom, showers, and large tub sinks. The yurt is a great DIY project thanks to their son - it's unique style definitely isn't store bought and more comfortable than other yurts I've been in. It rained the night I visited and the yurt stayed dry and warm throughout the night. There is also a screen so you can leave the thicker wall layer open on a warmer night. You get a comfy bed and clean sheets, but take extra blankets and pillows. There is also a bench and extra chairs for seating. Cook on the stone table rather than the plastic table to help everything last longer. On a clear night, definitely plan for a campfire. The real beauty of the farm is the family history. You can feel how much love has been poured into the property over the years. From the various farm animals (rescued horses, farm pups, a roaming cat, chickens), to the garden, lake, and abandoned bus. Ask Jan for some stories - she has plenty! Jan and Tom were so welcoming, sharing their stories and showing me around the farm. To-Do - Get burgers at Five Marys in downtown Fort Jones - go Hiking! Ask Tom & Jan, or stop at the ranger's station nearby. - Stargazing! It's pitch black at night

Yurt Camping under Sis-Q Stars
Tom and Jan are beautiful people; extremely gracious and friendly. Their dogs and cats are just as friendly and amazing. There is very little light pollution there thanks in part to Jan's advocacy. Got to see the space station and a sky packed full of stars. I loved walking their property to the river and duck pond. So many hummingbirds, grouse (I think), woodpeckers, blackbirds, ducks, goldfinch, doves, and owls. I'll be back!
