Otter Valley Farm sits in a sunny valley cradled by redwood forest. Across the valley from camp we run a small farm with a menagerie of animals. In spring and summer, we enjoy many warm sunny days, with occasional foggy mornings. Relax at camp, in the meadow or enjoy many nearby activities for kids and adults alike. Just 2.5 hours north of the Bay Area, the farm is near many hiking trails amongst the world's tallest trees. We are a 30 min drive to the town of Mendocino and the treasures of the North Coast, including majestic beaches, fresh fish, whale watching, paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing, hiking, hot springs etc. A drive of equal distance inland will take you to Anderson Valley, home of Hendy Woods State Park and a mecca for cider and wine tasting. Meadow Car Camp: Park a car or bring your van, RV, camper, or trailer to this serene spot in the open sunny meadow next to the redwoods. RV’s and campers must be self-sufficient. No hookups available and no generators allowed. Redwood Walk-In Tent Sites: Pitch your tent in the serenity of the towering redwoods looking out onto the sunny peaceful meadow. Redwood camp is situated in a grove of redwoods containing multiple tent sites. These are walk-in sites with easy unloading, no more than 50 feet from your car. Tent campers must park in the parking area between the sign board and porta-potty. There is a communal area for all campers with a water spigot, picnic table/bear box, and porta-potty near our info signboard and parking area. Be advised that this is a working farm and there is an echo in the valley. While it is peacefully quiet most of the time, you may hear some daytime farm activity. We also have a guard dog who moves around with our flock of sheep and goats who barks regularly after dark and when she perceives a potential predator. **There is no cell service on or within 15 minutes of our property. Wifi and a landline phone are available to campers in case of emergencies. **Pets must be kept on a leash at all times! For the safety of everyone including your pets, our dogs, and the various livestock on the farm, we can't allow any pets off leash.

Site 4 is the largest site situated in a beautiful redwood grove. It is perfect for groups and couples alike and is able to accommodate 8-10 people with a maximum of 5 tents. It is centrally located with easy access to the parking area, bathroom and spigot.

Incredible stay, the host was warm and welcoming. Helped me find the right spot and checked on me the second day but otherwise left me to enjoy myself. I was at site 6 - great little area tucked away along the trees. Recommend to anyone that needs a place

We loved campsite 4! It was perfect for families and kids. Under the redwoods gave the perfect amount of shade and kept us cool during the day. We also enjoyed the beautiful, warm weather walking to the farm stand and going to the beach in Mendocino. The kids absolutely loved meeting Margot and feeding the herd in the morning. Margot was fantastic with kids, keeping it fun and educational. She was also very responsive and accommodating to all of our questions and needs. We had the best time!

Lovely campground, friendly vibes, amazing stargazing! I wish there was a picnic table at every campsite! We didn’t have one at our site, but there is a communal table that we ended up using.

Margot's Hipcamp isn't some manicured, Instagram-bait campsite. It's the kind of place you stumble into and feel like you've gotten away with something. Tucked into a valley, dense woods at your back, an open field in front, the sort of clearing that makes you want to pour a drink and sit still for once. In the mornings, the fog drapes itself over the grass like a well-worn blanket, and the world feels quiet, forgiving. As the campsite fills up, the lively crowd makes the campsite feel warm with a hint of communal spirit. Thank you Margot!

Meadow Car Camp Site 1
The area was beautiful and we had a great time. Our site and the other two meadow sites sit on the bottom-side of a small valley with a herd of cows, sheep and goat nearby. The redwood sites are closeby, and tucked in a small grove of redwoods, they have much more shade and privacy if that is what you are looking for. We enjoyed the size of the site, the cool coastal air and morning fog. This is a good place to camp during the summer as you still get much of the coastal breeze. I do wish the sites had picnic tables, there was one communal one in the parking lot and one set in redwood site four. Speaking of sites, sites one and four offer the most distance and privacy from other sites. I would not recommend meadow site three as it sites right by the bathroom, parking lot and site two, with no privacy. The bathroom was an issue, extremely dirty and basically unusable. While we and our dogs had a great time I would most likely opt for a different location with better amenities.

Otter Valley Farm offered a tranquil camping experience in unspoiled wilderness. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the convenient proximity to the stunning scenery along Highway 1. The meadow campground was exactly as described.

We loved our stay at Otter Valley Farm! The land is beautiful, and the livestock was fun to watch from a distance! The campsites are very peaceful and it was really nice to have the picnic table and cupboard for our belongings. Can’t wait to go back!

A magical place! Beautiful working farm, pasture, orchards, all surrounded by redwoods. Clean bathroom, water available, and campsites were all lovely (& have a bearbox to keep your picnic baskets away from Yogi & Boo Boo :). Margot is a wonderful host! Amazing sunset, chill night, woke up to a misty morning & banana slugs trying to get into my tent :) No cell signal was a plus! Was wonderful to move at the pace of the farm & the land. Will definitely come again.

We really liked staying here- the farm is beautiful. Site 4 is very private in the woods and has several nice flat spots to set up tents and a picnic table. We didn’t realize until later that the only fire ring was communal by the parking area which was a bummer, but we ended up sharing it with another group and all cooking at the accompanying picnic table. As other reviewers said, you can hear dogs barking in the night- but the host provides earplugs and none of us were too bothered. The only thing that really bothered us was the lock on the gate— it was hard af to open and at one point all the groups camping came together and were still struggling to open it. We’d recommend oiling it or just putting a different lock.

Matt and Marot were lovely hosts. Site #4 was great with plenty of space to stretch out under the cover of redwoods. The farm is huge plus to this site, with the bleating of sheep and goats to welcome us. The rooster at sunrise completed the whole vibe. Meeting the flock and chatting with Matt about his sustainable farming methods was a total highlight for me and the kids!

Lovely property! 4 adults and 4 dogs - utilizing 1 truck camper and 1 jeep/tent setup - had ample room to enjoy Meadow #2. We especially loved the large tree providing shade throughout the day. The hosts are very kind to mention that the pasture adjacent to the campsite has guard dogs for their livestock, and that they might bark at night. We hardly noticed over a total of 3 nights. The property is easy to find/access. It’s about a 30 minute trip into downtown Mendocino but that wasn’t an issue for us! Overall the property is as described. Would recommended!

Lovely spot! Margot is a wonderful and attentive host. The land is beautiful and the campground was easy to access. I would definitely stay here again! Also the views alone on the drive from otter valley to Mendocino were gorgeous and so worth the stay!

Was such a peaceful experience camping at Otter Valley Farm. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. Lovely meeting their very friendly dogs as well. Campsite description was also accurate and very helpful in locating our reserved spot.

What an amazing place - so beautiful and peaceful! Margot was very welcoming and introduced us to all the animals, answering our (many) questions about the farm. Everyone was very friendly. We especially loved the farm dogs.

Margot was an excellent host! We were given a tour of her working farm, got to visit some of the animals. She came down to the camp area and spoke with every visitor that was camping at Otter Valley Farm. The camp had plenty of redwood trees, a meadow, and the facilities were spotless. It is a true treasure within Mendocino County. I would highly recommend a stay at Otter Valley Farm!
