This land has been a community gathering space for the Native's Ceremony and Healing Space for over a thousand years. Feast your eyes upon the Matates and traces of the people that once gathered here so long ago. Upon the mid 1800's we had a Settler named Nate Harrison find this to be the ideal space, and he set up homestead here, and lived an amazing full life. He was to become the first African American to aquire land here in San Diego County, and his homestead remains to this day; studied by archaeology students to this day. Sensitive habitat and magic lies within our gates, and we must approach the mountain as we would any sacred space; with RESPECT. We welcome you to enjoy Nate's land and inspire who you are deep inside your heart.

Camping at Harrison Serenity Ranch
Not my favorite camping experience.
Palomar Mtn is a beautiful area, and I was really looking forward to camping here (we'd camped before at the Observatory Campground and loved it). I was somewhat disappointed as it seemed that this campground has been a bit neglected and really could use some TLC. I loved that our Golden Retriever could roam free, and that we were in a site close to the one set of bathrooms (which has only one sink!), but I won't be going back. We ended up leaving early due to the excessive heat and crazy amount of bugs, but even without that, it won't be a place I return.

Camping at Harrison Serenity Ranch
This place is fine but feels like a junkyard. We camped here last year and it was so much better. But this year there is just so much junk everywhere, old furniture, old carpets, and chicken wire strewn about. The host was nice and the bathrooms were clean.

Never again!
Never again! We booked two night but only stayed one night. We left the following morning. Night time was fine but when we woke up in the morning we thought there were bees in the trees from how loud the buzzing was which would have been fine because bees don't bother you. Turned out it was a ton of flies. When we walked around to check out the grounds it was just dirty. I've never seen so many flies is one area. There was dried horse shit all over the grounds. The camp ground is poorly managed. We camp often and have never experienced anything like this. It honestly looks like a big dumping ground.

Camping at Harrison Serenity Ranch
If you are looking for a rustic historic camp site with water and bathrooms and great views available it is a place to see. The road is rough. 6 miles up. Bumpy, narrow and dirt road mix in spots. Camp has a very dusty and oak tree wood feel. You know, leaves, weeds, shade. Host Kari is awesome. If your up for an adventure off the beaten path or on your way to the observatory the long way up this historic road to Palomar mountain this might be the stop you need on your way. Peace. L.
