The views were absolutely stunning and it was a quick drive to the Lost Coast. The campsite was clean, well shaded and spacious. There was a great picnic table, swing, and the platform was sturdy and protected us from the wind.
The only downside was finding the place. The instructions from Ryan took us up two wrong turns so it took us an extra ~45 min to find the place. apparently a new road had been put in, which made the instructions much harder to follow as written. So book the site but check with Ryan on instructions before before heading up the hill.

The campsite was great and well thought out, my wife loved it and we had a great time. Plenty of pillows, nice sheets, crickets in the evening and birds in the morning! Ryan was the perfect host with lots of recommendations for activities in the area.

The campsite was absolutely gorgeous, but our hosts were even better. We thought we brought an AWD, but it wasn’t so they helped us move our stuff from our car to the platform. Having an AWD or a 4x4 is a must don’t even try coming without one. We had to get new tires and having the correct vehicle will save you the headache.
Our hosts were incredibly accommodating. They had the coolest family and community around them. This area is truly special and must visit spot. The quietness of the area was something we especially appreciated. Our family enjoyed everything about this trip and hope we can come back next summer.
One thing we will say is pay attention to the directions closely, and don’t be afraid to ask for help, just be sure you’re on the right road. We were coming from the south and made a wrong turn and drove 30 miles off course. We ended up in Humbolt National Park which ended up being the best accidental detour. The redwoods there are truly enchanting! A definitely must visit if you go. If you book your stay at the platform make sure to be mindful about leaving no trace.

The place was great and we had a great time visiting. The bed was comfortable and the view was great. If there is a fire ban I recommend bringing a propane fire pit like we did. We have a 2012 Honda CR-V with AWD which was loaded up with camping supplies and we made it up the mountain just fine. Ryan was very friendly and a great host.
The campground is more spread out than we gleaned from the photos which lead to a little confusion when we arrived. It would have helped if Ryan had been there when we arrived to point us in the right direction (understandably it was a Friday night and we got in a little late). The directions and maps weren't super clear at times so I'd recommend looking over them and comparing to Google maps before you head out.
Google took us on a back road out of Redway and not the main road through Humboldt Redwoods State Park on the drive in. A suggestion would be to update the directions to include that route or make it clear to not go through Redway if you are coming from the south, which I recommend avoiding.
A few suggestions for people visiting is to make sure your car has plenty of gas when you turn off 101. There aren't a lot of places to fill up afterwards and the places may not be open when you pass by. Also, I would arrive at least a couple of hours before sunset because once it gets dark it may be hard to figure out where to go.
All in all we had a great time and it was a fun little adventure visiting that part of the state.

The Lost Platform was amazing! Ryan is super friendly and helpful. It’s definitely a process getting there as it’s pretty remote but that’s the appeal. The views were incredible, it felt really private and safe, and was overall just super peaceful. The platform was a plus too, made sleeping in a tent so much more comfortable.

Ryan and his land were great. Everything we needed — seclusion, nature, fresh water and friendliness. Would recommend. As other reviews have said you need 4 wheel drive. Also, bring bug spray if coming in the summer months. Ryan was kind enough to lend us some :)

The Lost Platform
The Lost Platform was AMAZING. The site is tucked away, high up the side of a mountain looking down on the Mattole River and coastal mountains beyond. The site is perfectly situated under a massive oak tree, providing shade and some protection from the breeze. Ryan was a great host; he met us when we pulled up and then left us alone for the weekend. Our Subaru Outback (AWD, high clearance) had no problem with the dirt road to the site, but be sure to download Ryan’s directions before heading out. There’s no service.

The Lost Platform
This was actually our group's second time at the Lost Platform - everyone loved it so much we unanimously decided to come back! The view from the Lost Platform is gorgeous and there's lots of shade from the amazing tree over the platform. This is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day gazing over the valley below. Ryan is incredibly helpful and responds very quickly to messages/questions.

The Lost Platform
The spot is so beautiful and serene. I was traveling alone and though I would go explore or hike, but it was so lovely I just stayed on the mountain top soaking it in for two days. It was glorious. It was slightly buggy but nothing too bad - there was a citronella candle and I had some natural spray that did the trick - but that’s my one recommendation for other travelers. Enjoy this special place! (Also, there will be no trespassing signs along the way - this made me nervous but if you follow the directions, have faith that you’re in the right path

We camped at the Knob Glamping site for Father’s Day Weekend. The tent was set up like a suite, So cute and cozy! With a queen size bed, lots of pillows, table, couch, and two night stands, seriously who could ask for more?!!! Our kids set up their own tent next to ours and had a blast! Our camp area was clean, grass was freshly cut! We drove to the Mattole River on Saturday and spent the day swimming. Beautiful scenery all throughout our drive! If you are looking to get away from it all and want some adventure, definitely try this place out!

The property was beautiful! We had a great time waking up every morning to such a great view and enjoying the quiet at night over a campfire. Ryan is a very gracious host. He offered us plenty of suggestions of things to do while in the area and was around if we needed anything whatsoever. It’s a bit of a hike to get there (from SF) but would def stay here again.

This is a truly special spot. Camping on the platform was so cozy, nestled under a big beautiful oak tree. The view was one of the best car camping views we’d ever experienced. All of the sites on Ryan’s property are set up with such beautiful intentional details and amenities - at the platform we had a lovely swinging bench, picnic table, and benches around the fire pit. His directions to and around the property were very thorough. We also went on a lovely hike and explored the grounds. We hope to return soon!!

This place is amazing, so remote and private. The yurt is outfitted with really comfortable furniture (seriously the bed was more comfortable than my own) and had a picnic table, a fire pit, water spout and two outhouses nearby. The platform site wasn’t occupied so we were able to enjoy that as well, and the view was incredible! There are a few trails on the site, and we got at least 5 hours of exploration in with some still left to explore. We ended up staying on top of the mountain for the weekend, as it rained the second day we were there and the prospect of driving up the dirt road in our SUV to get back to the site was too much for us - seriously, this trek is not for the faint of heart. It’s a narrow and steep drive for at least 10 minutes, and that’s after the hour of driving through winding, narrow mountain roads to get to Petrolia. But if you’re up for an adventure, then this place is worth it. So beautiful and peaceful. Really hope to come back in the future.

Beautiful views. Nice & quiet. Ryan was friendly upon arrival and ensured we had what we needed. Secluded, private, spacious. Must hike up to the overlook to see the ocean views. Such a plus to have access to water also.
I’d definitely recommend the Lost Platform. And listen to Ryan, you’ll need to follow his maps! Which are great by the way.

The photos do not do it justice. This place is magic. We came from LA and were simply looking to find solitude and we found it. It was such a perfect place to reconnect with nature and it is really close to some amazing beaches. The hosts were super friendly and accommodating. We will for sure be back next year.

The lost platform was amazing and incredibly serene. The location is beautiful and Ryan and his dog were very kind. We brought our three dogs with us and they loved going for walks along the property. The hike up to the lookout was gorgeous with a view of the ocean. The campsite is very well thought out with a lit up walkway at night and a swing to take in the view - not to mention how nice it is to have your tent on a platform. There is running water at the campsite which made everything that much easier. It was an absolute treat to stay here and we’d love to come back in the future.

I had a magical stay at the knob. My rental chevy truck fought with me a lot up the mountain, so I would pick a different vehicle next time. Loved wine in the swing and yoga in the morning on the platform.

Great as you might imagine. This is a magical hideaway deep in the Lost Coast region. Our site was extremely well maintained and impressive overall. Ryan was a helpful, charming host. 10/10 would recommend to anyone with a 4x4 and sense of adventure.

What a beautiful experience! The property is gorgeous and Ryan was a welcoming host. The campsite itself felt incredibly special with a view of the neighboring mountains from the platform and bench swing. There's also a perfect set of trees for setting up a hammock.
You cannot drive all the way up the the campsite, so be sure things are packed in a way that makes it convenient to carry up a small hill. You wouldn't be able to get your Overlander or any kind of car you might want to be sleeping out of up the the platform area with the view, so you'll want to bring a tent or be comfortable sleeping outside.
The platform itself can easily fit a tent and it's nicely shaded under a beautiful tree. There is also a landing on the way up to the campsite where you could fit another couple of tents or so. That part isn't shaded, so if you're planning to use it to camp with a group, I would recommend bringing a shade structure.
It's far enough from the other camp site (which has a glamping style tent) to feel private, but close enough that if you went with friends you could easily get back and forth between each others sites if you rented both spots.
There's also a nice little hike you can take in the property to get a view of the ocean. At night you can see the Milky Way!

After camping next to a large and loud family group at a SP the week before, we were ready for some off grid solitude. This spot delivered exactly that. Could not be more happy with the decision to drive the extra miles to experience this slice of paradise Ryan and Rachelle have been great enough to share others.

This was our third time staying at the property, but the first time staying at The Lost Platform. It is a bit of a workout to haul gear up to the spot, but once you are there, HOLY COW THE VIEW! It makes it all worth it- and the two-seater swing is a nice touch. Although there was a fire ban (understandably), we still had a great and relaxing time. It feels like an adventure to get there, and once you arrive it's like being in your own tech-free calm space. We will definitely be back!

What a great place! Just as advertised! The views were beyond amazing. Ryan was a great host and full of information. Plan on 2 hours drive from Hwy 101. Highly recommend this off the grid and out of cell phone service location. I will definitely come here again.
