The Dancing Peacock Farm is over 125 years old, built in 1885 and is one of the oldest standing victorian style farm houses in all of Del Norte County.  The farm includes an original redwood barn and garden shed, a small apple orchard, vegetable and flower garden, blueberries, blackberries, pears and other various fruit trees.  The private trail down to Rowdy Creek is steep, but provides your own secret spot to swim or enjoy the peaceful sounds of the creek.  During salmon spawning season you can see the large fish swimming back up to the hatchery, which is just around the next creek bend from the property.  Rowdy Creek Fish Hatchery does tours as well and is a fun activity if you've never seen a hatchery.  The house was home to California's first female postmistress Pearl Height during the early to mid 1900's.  The property sits on the ancestral lands of the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation and in Tolowa this place is Howonquet (Xaa-wan'-k'wvt).  Dustin and Michelle recently bought the farm and hope to raise peacocks and chickens as well as other farm animals.  In the field you will find dairy cows with their babies, which provide loads of entertainment.  The property is close enough to walk into town for authentic Mexican food at Perlita's taco truck if you are comfortable walking on a moderately busy road.  There is a dollar general south on the 101 if you forgot any of your essentials and is a quick drive.  For access to fishing the Smith River boat ramp is just south on Fred Haight Drive.  For kayaking and paddling adventures we recommend going up the 197 at Jed Smith, Walker Road and many other beautiful locations nestled in the redwoods.

Creekside Farm- near redwoods, rivers and beaches
Was a fine place to sleep for the night, but not particularly scenic and no toilet or any facilities at all.

Michelle and Dustin were great hosts, the property was perfect for visiting the redwoods, picked plums and blackberries right outside our camper, they made us feel very welcome and gave us a very thorough guide of places to visit up the Oregon coast. Highly recommend

Quiet setting with great hosts. They were more than accommodating with our low battery bank and the blackberries were worth the price of admission!!

Creekside Farm- near redwoods, rivers and beaches
We had a blast staying a couple of nights at this lovely property. The two sites are probably best suited for RV'ers, but we were alone and pitched a tent at the back, right next to the creek trail and with plenty of privacy. We had good afternoon shade and a view of the creek through the trees. The sites are also well back from the road, so road noise was minimal. As an added bonus, there was a mama cow and a couple of juveniles in the small pasture next to us, and we got to wake up to a new calf being born in the morning (we also got to pet the cows and receive some cowlicks in return). The owners were incredibly nice and even let us pick some fresh veggies from their garden. The creek was great for cooling off -- it's gentle and mostly shallow, with some deeper spots to get wet in. The location is also great...just a few minutes from Tolowa Dunes and Jedediah Smith Redwoods SP. All-in-all, we had a pleasant and relaxing stay.
