If you've ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. Completely removed from civilization and surrounded by a barren nature that is alive with the subtle presence of the universe. Seasonally, Spring wildflowers burst across the landscape. Cave paintings of Chumash Indians remind us of those who lived before us. This is where the deer and the antelope play. Our Carrizo Camp is surrounded by the Carrizo Plains National Monument. This is truly a get away from it all camping. That's it. You, the coyotes and your own private moon. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets. Our Ranch House and Glampsites are available on occasion. This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. There are two sites where RVs are welcome. This land was sparsely populated by the Chumash Indian and is evident by the numerous cave painting that remain here in the Caliente mountain. In the era of the California Missions, this land was a part of the Spanish land grants. Currently the property is privately owned and is adjacent to large sections of publicly held lands.

Songdog Glampout
We had a great time at Songdog Glampout. We fit four adults and two small children in the tent and were grateful for the propane heater to warm up when it got below 40 degrees. Jim and Jenny left us the perfect amount of firewood and all the cooking basics were provided as well. We really enjoyed the open land, beautiful views, and quiet. We tried our best to arrive before dark but when we didn't, Jypsy barked us towards the right road and some friendly Songdog regulars showed us the rest of the way. The kids loved playing with the sweet Jill & Jypsy. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

Pupdog Hill
Glamping at its finest
This was the perfect getaway! It was cold out at night but the fireplace made for cozy and warm evenings. (Recommend bringing extra blankets though). The entire cabin was full of windows to enjoy the landscape, which was especially nice at night looking out at the sky. I saw a few shooting stars while laying in bed! One of my favorite features was the outdoor toilet. There is a fully functioning/flushable toilet about 100 feet away. A great way to be one with nature ;-) Overall 10/10 and we will absolutely be back. Thanks Jim and Jen for everything!

Beautiful spot!
Such a beautiful spot! Sleeping on top of the Mesa was a dream. We even got to see a shooting star! We did hear some coyotes in the distance, so keep an eye on your pups when the sun goes down. Thank you for everything, what a fun trip!

Site 1 - Songdog West Campsites
Jim is a great host. We have a small trailer towed by an F150 and was able to drive across the river bed (with caution) and up the hill with no issues. Site was well kept, great view. Will return for another stay for sure,
