This was one of the most incredible camping trips of my life! Hipcamp is an absolutely brilliant concept and Old Homestead did NOT disappoint. There are 6 "primitive" (no water, no electricity) sites and it's a carry-in/carry-out situation (you take everything you came with, trash and all). The sites are all located on the huge ranch that is currently home to a large, beautiful herd of Charolais cattle. There is a wall of beautiful trees to block the wind; the camp sites are nestled against the treeline. There are even shady areas under the tree canopy where we hung our hammock. The port-a-potty was serviced just before we arrived, was spotless clean, and had plenty of tissue and wipes available -it even has a little plastic mirror. The rolling fields, the sound of the wind blowing through the trees, the distant sound of waves crashing... it was absolutely serene. We went a little early in the season so no one else even occupied the other sites during our stay! This would, however, be a perfect location for groups of family or friends, all setting up camp side-by-side. Additionally, there are so many great trails over the bluffs and down to the beach. The Gualala river is nearby for kayaking and swimming. The town of Pt. Arena is beautiful and super fun to explore as well. Between Hipcamp and Ariana, this was a wonderful experience. I'm so grateful that she opened her land to share in this way. It was a beautiful and super fun trip. (Note to anyone who hasn't ever camped by the ocean... the dew in the morning, all over everything, is more like a layer of water all over everything. Anything that you don't want to be wet in the morning, you should store overnight.) Happy Camping!
