Bigfoot’s Coastal Hideaway

We don't want to share our Hipcamp stays with permanent campers preferring isolated, quiet uncongested surroundings. While several sites were isolated and quite beautiful, ours was not, situated as it was next to the access road and close to several larger trailers which seemed to be there for extended stays. While Beth, the site manger, and the owner (via phone) were very thoughtful and made every effort to accommodate us, we decided to look elsewhere for the night.

Raven’s Nest

A wonderful campsite with a creek nearby. Huckleberries/Blueberries were there for us to pick but we did agitate some yellow jackets and I was bitten (there was a yellow jacket nest in the trees behind the Ravens Nest). It was a nice site with neighbors a good distance away for privacy. We did encounter many spiders especially under the picnic table, but it was fitting for the season and completely understandable. Overall we had a peaceful time! Definitely recommend setting up camp and venturing to Fort Bragg at least once during your trip, there are many shops and wonderful restaurants to explore. It was a wonderful experience at Bigfoots Coastal Hideaway, we hope to be back soon!

The host was incredibly kind and easy to get a hold of. Our site was a bit smaller than expected (we have a 100lbs dog) and she let us move to a larger site. Everything was clean, porta potties were spotless, and having firewood sold there definitely lightened our load when packing. As for the wood chips- they definitely aren’t flammable. Trust me, I tried using them as kindling and it wouldn’t lite so no worries on that. The wood chips actually gave the site a very clean feeling. The trails are short, and it’s definitely the type of site to hang out and relax. There were a TON of banana slugs which was awesome and the property was less than 10 mins from the town that has an outdoor store in case you forget a blanket like we did! Loved it here, will be coming back!

Great place to stay for a roadtrip.

Well, we actually got lucky and noone else was camping there besides the host’s family and we were allowed to choose any campground. It was dark when we arrived so we went with the recommendation of Emerald Triangle, which was nice and spacious, potable water was right next to the campsite which was convienient. Shower was pretty clean, good water pressure, took a while for it to get hot but it did. Wifi was available by the main house. And the best part my pups got to roam around freely. We stayed only a night. We walked down the creek in the morning as well which was so pretty. I’d stay again.

Fantastic location for some coastal camping in the forest. A peaceful creek to meditate by is just a short walk. And Heather is a great host with amazing communication on directions and suggestions. Will be back!

I was not a fan of this site. The instructions that were provided for accessing and checking in did not line up with what was actually there. I arrived once it had gotten dark and was greeted by a not trespassing sign at the gate and no signs that I was in the right place. Once I eventually made it in and was certain it was the right spot it became abundantly clear that the property is not well maintained. It did feel safe or inviting to stay there I do not recommend. I slept a few hours then dipped as fast as I arrived

Timber Terrace Group Camp

This was a very quite and secluded camp site. We lucked out and no other campers were here, so it was just us and the beautiful redwoods. Would definitely stay again!

I don't recommend this campground. When we arrive, the site that was advertised for 30 people was far too small for our 24 people (between 7 tents). There wasn't enough space to fit our 7 tents and 7 cars. The advertised fresh water tank was empty and the host did not fill it when we informed her. When we asked where running water was, she told us to look at the map (which does not exist). The advertised flushing toilet was out of order and the shower was part of a room with exposed electrical wires. The site and property descriptions way oversell what this place actually is. Overall, this property offers a much worse camping experience than any neighboring campgrounds, and for an extreme price.

Grassy Camp

Our little group camped there for the long weekend and we really enjoyed the campsite. It was grassy and clean. The location was perfect not too far from all the things we wanted to go see. The main reason I think I would not return is because of the bathroom situation because the Porta-Potty was pretty bad and the shower was not something that I felt comfortable using. It wasn't a lock on the door with the shower. The property itself felt a little cluttered and run down. I think it would just take a little bit of effort for these things to improve and if so I would return.

Shady Grove WiFi car/tent camping

The site was not really big enough for our tent. Tent size descriptions on the campsites would have been helpful. Branches were recently pruned from trees, but were not cleaned up. They could have been picked up from the tent site. The Porta-potty was pretty disgusting. It could have been emptied; the contents were nearly to the top. It was risky to sit down without touching the sewage.

It was basically a junk yard. There were people who worked there but didn't even do anything that we saw, except smoke weed in the outhouses and the one shower room and leave ashes everywhere. The washroom has never been cleaned and there is even a note nailed to the wall asking the campers to help keep it clean, instead of the management doing their job. They didn't even clean out our fire pit before our stay. There is no sign at the front and the gate was closed with a private property sign with a warning if video surveillance of trespassers so I thought I was lost and scrambled to figure out what went wrong without any cellphone service.

Grassy Camp

We tent camped here at Grassy Camp. The kids had fun on the tire swing. It was close to portable potty and the shower. Other campers weren't too close, but the ones we did encounter were friendly. Heather is also friendly and they all were helpful! I definitely would camp here again!

Mushroom Hill campsite Aug 22-24

Campsite is nice and close to area recreation and attractions. Clean campsite, wish there was a more obvious map to specific camping sites showing driveway routes. Heather was very helpful and quick to reply with clearer directions when messaged before our arrival. There were no longer signs up at individual campsites though so a bit hard to identify which one was ours. There is no or very limited cell service in area but the wifi zone near the shower did work well if you need internet. The campsites all had clean new redwood chip mulch and most if not all had metal, stone or brick fire rings. Shower in freight container felt rather awkward and adjacent toilet was out of order. Plenty of very clean. portable toilets available though. Priced fairly for a rustic and pretty redwood forest site. Becky at the trailer near front entrance was nice to offer us campfire wood for sale. Property was for sale so maybe removal of old campsite signs was to give property a freshened look but that didn’t help to find our campsite. I used the photos of the campsites I screenshot from HipCamp to match up trees, stump and fire ring with what we found at the property. Generally the site was very quite, occasional noise of a speeding car would pass by on the nearby Turner Road and the distant sound of Noyo Harbor fog horn could be sometimes heard overnight. Convenience to local amenities and the beauty of the redwoods are worth considering for a return visit.

Friendly but didn't feel fire safe.

I booked this trip last minute and they were open and communicated very well. It was very quiet and rustic. The bathrooms were portos but they were very clean. The issues I have are that I was told to follow signs but there were none. They said that I could upgrade my camp site since it was my birthday but when I got there the camp host wasn't there and their associates did not know anything about it. My camp site wasn't labeled like I was told so I had to guess which one was mine. They allow camp fires but filled the camping areas with very flammable wood chips right up to the fire pit which was an old washing machine basin straight on the ground. I know they were flammable because after I cleared a space around the pit I used some to start my fire. They went up like, well, woodchips. I bought firewood but did not use it all because even tho I cleared a space around the fire pit the fact that a wandering spark could kill me and burn everything down kept me from enjoying my fire. I wanted to leave a good review because they were super nice but it just seems unsafe.

Timber Terrace Group Camp

This place overall is beautiful. And the staff remember we interacted with seemed friendly. The campgrounds are well maintained. The only reason for the less than raving review was the port a toilets on sight were near to the brim full, like they hadn’t been pumped in a month or two. It was disgusting. Other than that, it was a nice experience.

Hella Mendocino Campout~August 16th

The redwoods all around camp were beautiful, what an amazing location. The staff were kind and helpful and visiting Fort Brag and the beaches was so convenient because of how close this campground was to the coast and stores. I stayed at one of the walk in campsites and loved the peace and privacy. The fire rings were perfect for reflecting during the night and when I wanted to stay at the campground for the day the trails and Creek access were perfect. The only feedback I would give is the have a map with the campgrounds and trails.

This quiet campsite is located just outside of Fort Bragg, allowing for a convenient stop on the way north to the Redwood National Forest. Clean sites and easy to access.

Car camping was really nice out here! Clear directions, easy check-in, and a very pretty, scenic site. There were several other groups there on the same night but it wasn’t too disruptive or loud. Definitely recommend!
