Westerly Cottage has been lovingly restored over the past 6 years that we have owned her! She was a wartime barrack..... with many fabulous additions! The home was built in the late 40s and added on to. Sooke has a rich a vibrant heritage of logging, fishing, farming and mining! Local panning for gold is a great hobby for the enthusiasts! Come and join us by the sea! We boast ocean and mountain views.... The Strait of Juan De Fuca and the coastal range in the distance!!!! We offer our cottage rate as a day rate, for a minimum of 4 guests to a max of 6. All inclusive.

Ocean and Mountain Views Abound!
Not what we expected
We arrived to the camp and no on was home. There were no views but was close to the beach. We went to the beach close by to enjoy sunset. When we arrived back at the place, there was no labels on anything. We were uncertain where the bathroom was, where to park/where to camp. We tapped on the door and someone answered - they stated that we could use the toilet in the trailer parked in back. We went to use the trailer, the toilet was dirty and the water pump was off/not working. In addition there was not toilet paper. Fortunately we were ready to camp and had hand sanitizer, toilet paper etc. Also the listing states there was going to be breakfast but there was no communication or offering on this. There was actually no communication from the host at all. We just packed up and left as it was an awkward experience. Also beware of the racoon who wants your stuff! The pictures were accurate. If I was passing through and just wanted a place to throw up a tent that would have been great. I can not believe we payed $75 for a dirty toilet and a patch of land to pop up our camper. With no breakfast as stated. We felt pretty ripped off.

Great Location in Heart of Sooke
Westerly Cottage is a located in the heart of Sooke, within walking distance to grocery stores, a brewery, restaurants, and a number of attractions including the beautiful marine boardwalk just across the street. By car, one is close to a number of attractions including lakes, hikes, more breweries, and a plethora of beaches. The property itself is very eclectic, with a beautiful garden, numerous sitting areas, a chicken coop, and a number of amenities. Amenities provided include fire pits, both wood and propane, water taps, and, perhaps most enjoyable, a crab trap with bait for use down at the boardwalk across the street. Annette and Guy are very friendly and welcoming, providing a ‘make-yourself-at-home’ atmosphere. Prior to, and during my stay, Annette was very quick to answer any questions we may have, as well as provide suggestions as to where to explore. They also provide a home-cooked breakfast each morning consisting of eggs, yogurt, and toast served on their patio overlooking the harbour below. The camping area is essentially wherever one would like. Beside the house in the front yard is a sawdust area with room for a few tents, and behind the house is a small lawn area with room for about two smaller tents. During my stay, we chose to set up on the lawn in the back yard, to provide some distance from the road. It is important to note, no matter where you chose to set up camp, there is some noise from the road, so earplugs are recommended for a light sleeper. Also note this isn’t the most private place to camp. No matter where you choose to set up, you will be steps away from the house, and in the backyard, there’s a number of other rentals, including two trailers and a permanent tent set up. Finally, during our stay, the only washroom available on the property was inside the house, but Annette tells me an outhouse is on the way. With this in mind, you should be sure to enjoy your conveniently located stay; and be sure not to miss out on the boardwalk!

Ocean and Mountain Views Abound!
Not for us unfortunately
First off Annette was very proactive at reaching out to ask us questions about our upcoming trip and answer any ones we had. Big thumbs up. We arrived early at check in time as instructed. The site wasn't quite large as we had hoped for. Took us a little while to find a entrance to knock at. Didn't feel like we were expected or they'd got the memo about sleeping in our car. All a bit confusing and the very large barking Rottweiler (who I'm sure is very friendly- we love dogs!) added to the confusion. Decided not to stay at all. The set up was very close to the house and didnt feel we'd get the privacy we'd hope for or the views of the beach. The back area was quite congested with trailers and vehicles so not a huge amount of space to camp out either. My fault for not asking more questions about the set up and I'm sure it would have been lovely for someone looking for an easy, cost effective, no frills set up. We just wanted a bit more space really. More like camping in a regular back garden/driveway than a camping site but again I should realised this from the pictures or asked for more details on the plot.
