A comfortable retreat near trails
My husband Tim and I camped here on our Bikepacking trip on the Cowichan Valley Figure 8 in July. We were so glad we did! Giovanni is just delightful, an attentive host who makes you feel right at home. The campsite was spacious and had a table and it was great to have the outhouse and water nearby, and Giovanni was gracious to allow me to charge my ebike as well. We enjoyed a lovely conversation with Giovanni around the fire in the evening. The property has lovely gardens and birds and bunnies. If you are riding the Cowichan Valley trail on your bike, the campsites are just .6 miles up a gravel road, a little uphill to get there but very worth it. It is so nice that Giovanni shares his slice of paradise with others!

Beautiful countryside
Beautiful winding country road drive in and a good size site. Enough privacy and nature abounds. We saw an owl, a deer, two bunnies pass by every afternoon and the neighbour’s Guinea fowl paraded through every morning. Peace and quiet every night and a serenade of frogs. Giovanni is a great host. Highly recommend!

Private, Quiet, and Tranquil.
Located up a quiet mountain road, Giovanni’s property is a perfect get-away to relax in nature, while being steps away from the amazing bicycling opportunities of the Cowichan Valley Trail.
On the property, the peaceful ambiance is highlighted by a private site sheltered by salal and trees, with a seasonal stream trickling in the background. A picnic table and fire ring are perfect for relaxing, with firewood and kindling provided for my stay. Steps away from the site is a beautiful field and pond, with a water tap, clean outhouse, and putting green for guest’s enjoyment.
While the one site is well established, Giovanni has more in the works across the property, all offering private tranquility. Some of the in-progress sites will be perfectly suited to those with trailers or campervans, while others will excel for tenters.
Giovanni himself is welcoming and quick to respond to any questions one might have. His level of care for his property is clear, and well reflected in the currently established site, leaving no doubt the other sites will be just as nice.

Lovely place, nice spots, water and an out house, everything you need. I stayed as part of a 3 day bikepacking trip on the Cowichan Valley Trail.

Perfect, peaceful, rural getaway
We spent two peaceful nights at Giovanni's land. Our objective was to get out of town and spend some time somewhere very quiet where we could get in a few bike rides and not do anything else. When we arrived, we were greeted very warmly by the hosts, given guidance setting up and a tour of the land. And, he went out of his way to make sure we had a picnic table at our site. For the rest of the weekend Giovanni gave us our privacy.
His place is rural and very peaceful, which is exactly what we wanted. Much of the property is treed with second growth cedar, hemlock and some fir. There are cleared campsites and a larger (and beautiful) cleared orchard, garden, and cabin area where the host stays. Because our vehicle has limited clearance, we were in the campsite closest to the deadend gravel road but it was still very quiet; during the day, we might have heard one car every two hours at most. There was no one else there when we were, but the sites are private so I don't think it would have affected us much if there were. There is a very clean, rustic outhouse and a hand pump for water. The location is perfect for cyclists who want to gravel ride or road ride (a few - I don't know the exact number - kms up a gravel road but I had no trouble with this section on my road bike). The whole vibe reminds me of Vancouver Island 30+ years ago and is the delightful antithesis of a provincial campsite where you are stacked in with your neighbours like sardines. Of course, you have to be willing to go without a shower if you don't have a camper or a van, but it's well worth it.
Our trip was a last minute decision that turned out to be a great choice and we definitely hope to go back soon.

Best campsite on the island
The best campsite on the island. The owner is super friendly, the site was clean and roomy, water is accessible near by.
