Once home to the anasazi natives. This valley was the final resting place of the anasazi tribe. For hundreds of years they defended this valley before being wiped out. Many of the artifacts ruins and arrow heads still scatter the land. There is a 1,000 ft tall mesa named Black mesa. Black mesa was formed by the same tectonic activity that created the rockies. It has features such as lava tubes petrified wood rare stones and gems and a breath taking view. Great camp area away from it all!!
Staying at High Spirit was a quiet, starry location in the middle of an area that is at the end of a dirt road. Part of the drive in off of the highway, which is about 3 miles is a maintained gravel road but the other mile or so is dirt and areas thru dry River beds for this time of year. Spring might be different. Bonnie is a delightful host and has areas for cooking and sitting under a tent and a compost toilet in a tent next to the trees. Taking a trailer is rough and a challenge but for camping with a van would be better. I highly recommend going in the daytime so you can maneuver the roads in.

Snowflake az High Spirit camping
Nice, low key, no frills place for if you just want a place to camp and enjoy the outdoors. Hosts were great about guiding me to my site by meeting me at the country store and by drawing me a map for my return. Nice place to take a walk and you can climb the mesa to get a view of the surrounding area. Host was great, we got into a spontaneous hour long discussion and I learned all sorts of things about the area. I appreciated that. I was there on a weekend so I was able to hear the hosts's music being played, which was fine as I have earplugs and slept in my car. Just a head's up if you are coming for any sort of quiet retreat :)

Beautiful property out in the desert. Primitive camping. Met Bonnie and co at local store, followed them to property off some desert roads. Wish I had got there sooner to appreciate the views. Night sky was incredible.
