We decided to beach the boat and settle in for a bonfire during low tide. We saw a sea dragon, talked with an otter for a few minutes, watched a tree just stand up and walk into the forest, a small pale child sat at the fire with us for almost an hour, and then a woman (probably his mom) swam by really, really fast. 100/100 recommend.

Paved roadways & campsite driveways = no dust !!
AWESOME location with mountain and lake views.
Peaceful and quiet (except for the noisy neighbors on the first two nights of our stay who ran their generators all day and night).
The Campground operators should post limits on the use of generators.
Nights 3 & 4 were so quiet that we could hear the river in the valley below and the waterfall on the west face of the valley.

Excellent campground nestled up near Thompson Pass. Really quiet and exceptional views. Registration process is a bit different. You can reserve on line but not guaranteed if within 7 days. We arrived around noon and non-resident host was on site and helped sort out some confusion with our site.

Blueberry Lake Camp Site 7
Site 7 was flat and next to the river. Place was clean. About 25 miles out of Valdez, but the ride was quick and in the morning we saw a bear run across the road right by the KOA campground. We think the bear had just finished his breakfast.

We booked site #5 & site #6 with our friends. We were "greeted" by a moose right next to the the site in the creek, watched an eagle in this unbelievable beautiful landscape. What a dramatic place here ... highly recommend to any nature loving person ,..

It’s kinda tough to tell how great this campground is because the more people that know how great it is, the harder it will be for us to get our favorite spot. But, truly, this campground is great! It’s secluded with incredible views! You can fish at the lake, takes hikes, or just relax!

Shoup Bay - McAllister Cabin
The camp was nice, bathroom was clean, cabin accommodated 8 we had two air mattresses that made the stay more comfortable. Stove was temperamental, we had a backup buddy heater for the cabin. I would and have recommended the cabin to others, I told them the same thing.

Obviously pretty location, it's Valdez. Camp host is responsive & communicative, just would be nice if the titles for the spots were more clear.
Referring to a parking spot as a "camp site" is misleading

These are the highest priced public cabins around. There should be a better level of maintenance done to justify the high price charged for a public facility.
The cabin handrails are rotting and are not secure. Logs need to be sealed and the yard needs to be properly trimmed, many of the bushes were cut back 1-3’ above the ground.

The cabin is great and in a wonderful spot next to a stream. We saw an a avalanche across the bay towards the glacier in the evening. We were really hoping for a warm spot to sleep after our day on the water, but the oil stove wasn't working properly. I've stayed at over 10 different cabins in Alaska with oil stoves and this was the first one that wouldn't run consistently. The cold cabin didn't ruin the night since it stayed above freezing and the morning sun warmed us all up quickly. We would stay again.

Great location, easy access with a boat but not maintained well enough for the price. The stove doesn’t function well and hasn’t been maintained, cabin fills with exhaust and doesn’t keep the cabin as warm as it should.

This is very basic and small campground, but perfect for nature lovers, because nature is why you should visit this place. Nice lake is on the one side of the camp and very dramatic mountains surrounding whole place, which makes it special. No forest, so if it is not cloudy beautiful views are from some campsites (like site 12). Also this campsite is very solitude but close to toilets so this site I find one of the best in whole camp.

We stayed at Site 14 for two nights and enjoyed it quite well. The second night we arrived back from a boat tour in Valdez about 8 pm and there was a lady and dog camping on our site. She left when I asked but I think she was just trying to stay for free. The sites are a bit pricey for dry camping though.

This was a nice campsite right outside of Valdez. Our site had a variety of wild berries growing in and around it. We stayed at site #21, which is the best site in my opinion as it was secluded far away from the other sites and bathroom. This site is probably not ideal for a large family or a family with kids. If you are looking for a more dispersed camping experience, this site is it! The host was super responsive, friendly and very helpful in accommodating our party due to inclement weather.

Blueberry Lake Camp Site 7
Beautiful campground, I'd highly recommend it to others. This campground sits on top of Thompson Pass and is about 25miles from Valdez. Cell service is sparse, but we could get enough of a signal to stay on top of things. I lived in Valdez and Anchorage for 12 years and finally got to camp here after I was done working ... it's a must see place!

It was an okay stay but fishing was barely possible and picnicking as it enriches on campsites. The memorial up on rock with face was creepy!

Blueberry Lake Camp Site 13
This is one of the nicest Alaska State Campgrounds we have stayed in this summer. We have been camping in site’s throughout Alaska for the last 3 months! The sites were clean, bathrooms were clean without any odors and the lake was lovely as were the views. We liked it so much we stayed 4 days.

I know stuff grows like crazy down there, but there needs to be some serious pruning done to restore the. view to the bay. We did quite a bit, as you couldn’t even see the bay or glacier from the cabin, but it needs more.
Ran in one of the crews doing some trimming at the McAllister cabin, but sadly was very unimpressed with their work - stuff cut off two feet above ground, all trimmings left in trail, apparently volunteer labor and boat

Awesome campground. Outhouses are clean.
We brought our own fireweed but lots of folks seeking wood (we shared ours). Might be good to either stock some onsite or make it clear on web site there us none at the camp.
We stayed in Site 9 for part of our stay.
Great site. But tough for folks to figure out where the trail starts with our rv blocking the sign that’s set back. A sign a bit removed from the site night help. Would also help to have a sign up the hill behind site 9 because many folks that go up trail wander back down right thru site 9.

Beautiful spot, campground was clean and bathrooms on point.
Wish we could have fished, our neighbors landed a dozen trout.
Someone nabbed our reserved site but the campground was undersubscribed so we slotted into another. No biggie , but not sure what we would have done with no host and no cell service.

This is the third time we have stated these cabins in Shoup Bay. We travel down from Fairbanks and enjoy a day or two in the Valdez area and then travel out to these cabins usually for two nights. We enjoy paddle boarding and zodiac-ing around in the bay in front of the cabins, we also hike over to the glacier and enjoy watching all of the waterfalls come down the mountain behind the cabins. we found the cabins to be comfortable and dry. We found the trail in between the cabins had been recently cleared about 8 to 10 feet wide. Just remember to bring a couple of gallons of diesel fuel for the drip stoves. Or kerosene. A wonderful In state cabin trip. Will be back to do it again.

The location is beautiful and waking up by the lake was magnificent. We arrived in the evening and it was nearly impossible to see the site numbers. We were in site 18 but could not find it. It was quite frustrating. Later, on our way back out, we saw it was way before the rest of the campground. There were no clear signs anywhere. We did not have this problem at any of the other campgrounds we stayed in on this trip.
Mostly I would advise the hosts to make their website descriptions a little less passive aggressive. It really created a feeling of negativity. Combined with the poor signage I would only recommend this campground because of its location.
