Talkeetna Jo’s Dry Cabin

Booked 1 time
Cabin · Sleeps 4
Monday - Thursday, available for one night stays. Friday - Sunday, minimum two night rental. This one room cabin, has a queen bed, and is best suited to a single guest or couple. There is a loft, closed in Winter. In summer, the loft offers space for children or another one or two guests. Children must bring bedding and blankets. The little woodstove keeps it cosy thru those chilly Alaska evenings. There is a microwave, 2 burner hot plate, full sized refrigerator, and dry sink. The cabin has electric service. Not quite "glampin", but a bit more than tent campin! Now, here's where it gets all Alaskan... this is what we call a "dry cabin". There is no running water. Guests may obtain water from our well at the main cabin at the entry to the property, 190 meters away. There is an outhouse adjacent to Jo’s. The cabin sits by itself, well back in the trees. Christiansen Lake is 200 meters away. A fire ring in front of the cabin, makes a great place to entertain Alaska’s State Bird in the evening. Firewood may be purchased at the main house. There is ample room for parking and turning a vehicle and trailer. Guests are welcome to use our little dock for launching small craft, fishing, or just lounging in the sun. Moose seem to like the woods around Jo's place. The lakes and bogs, offer bird watching, starting at the cabin door. Talkeetna Lakes Park - just down the road - offers excellent trails, a beach, and unlimited wildlife viewing. The rare Talkeetnan Dweller, is sometimes encountered on the trail. Only around 1000 are known to exist! Historic Talkeetna, is just a few minutes away. A paved bike trail runs into town. Pull on those shiny new rubber boots, freshen up with a few shots of skeeter repellent, and head on in for a bit. Surely is fun to dress up once in awhile! When your arms get tired from haulin round all those authentic, Alaska made souvenirs, stop by the brewery for a pick me up. Then drop in at the museum. At the end of the main boulevard, watch the mighty Susitna River rush on by. As you drift back through town, you might want to drop by the High Expedition Company, and get something for later when you’re hanging round the campfire. At supper, remember, winter is coming! Best to lard up! There are plenty of eateries to help with that mission. A hearty meal is cheaper than a down comforter or a new parky. Talkeetna isn't done with you just yet. Many evenings in our glorious, sunlit Not-Winter season, there's music at the town square. Tune in to our very own radio station, KTNA, for info about all the local doings. Other than that, there really isn't anything to do out here in the middle of nowhere. I mean, a body can only hike around hundreds of thousands of hectares of wilderness for so long. Once you catch a cupla giant salmon or trout - been there, done that. Climb a mountain? How tiresome! Canoeing, flight seeing, gold panning... just another loooong Summer day in the last best place, Talkeetna, Alaska.
