Located seven miles from downtown Homer, the drive up East Hill and along Skyline Drive offers outstanding views of Kachemak Bay. BOUYLAND is completely surrounded by the Inspiration Ridge Wildlife Preserve; our 800-foot driveway is a frequent path for moose. A short walk through the alders reveals a vast panorama of Mt. Redoubt, Lookout Mountain, Beaver Creek, Bald Mountain, Fritz Creek, and the Kachemak Mountains. The Setting The scenery is beautiful, but amenities are sparse. Access is via a narrow grass driveway. There is no running water at the 12' x 16' "Cabinette." There is 10 gallons of Homer's finest culinary/chlorinated water, in jugs, for you to drink, cook, brush teeth, wash face, etc. A foot pump on the floor brings water from one jug to the sink, you can pour from the other. The toilet is a clean, comfortable outhouse—best used with the door open to take in the view. Alaska cabin life at it's finest! The Pros Peaceful. Away from the town bustle with a fair chance a moose (or porcupine this year) will walk right past you. The Views: Incredible sunsets behind Mt. Redoubt. Nature: High and dry with hardly any bugs. Fresh Water: I developed a cool spring on-site in 2025. Worth a look🧐 The Cons Rustic: No Shower. Outhouse only and underdeveloped. Shared Space: We live on the lot (2.77 acres) and will drive past you. We’ll likely bump into each other, but you’re free to explore. Daytime Noise: Trucks occasionally haul gravel off Ohlsen Mt. in the summer. They rumble past (out of sight) during the day, but mornings and evenings are peaceful. We are directly adjacent to the Inspiration Ridge Preserve. Reservations required [xxxxxxxx] Explore Ohlsen Mtn Rd for hilly gravel/mountain biking with views of Mt. Iliamna. For road cyclists, Skyline Drive offers "sporty" riding to the Sterling Highway (expect some rough patches). The Wynn Nature Center is just two miles away, and the hike up Lookout Mountain to the VORTAC is a local favorite.12x16 Murphy Cabin (garage). When our small car is out, the bed folds down, the table folds down too. Our first guest ever commented "the place was incredibly nice considering it was a garage." There are finished walls, opening windows. We put down a cushy foam floor when the car is out. Small sink, foot pump for clean potable water. Small two burner stove top. Mr. Buddy heater. Solar system to charge devices and run some lights. Simple. Outhouse for pooping 💩. You can pee anywhere you want! Just not in the cabin. Actually ... there is a pee bucket with a lid in the corner. Right outside the door and around the corner is a second pee bucket for dudes if you don't want to put on shoes and venture into the woods. There are some plates, bowls, utensils and a french press. We'll grind you some coffee beans (usually dark roast from Costco). There's a teapot, and a pan to heat up some food, a little cutting board, knives, paper towels, plastic tub for washing dishes. We put a ice chest under the counter, if you bring a bag of ice you can have cold storage too. It's basically car camping but in a really nice, big, hard sided car. Queen size memory foam bed. Replete with clean sheets and blankets. 2 will fit in the bed. One could fit on the floor, we do have a foam pad for that. It's tight with two people, crazy tight with three. Throw open the garage doors and bring the outside in. Or not, your choice. The space is small enough that if a few mosquitoes get in, you can easily hunt 'em all down and squash them. 5 gallons of clean Homer city water ready for the sink. 5 extra gallons of clean City water in a blue jug under the counter for your cooking/dishes.
