A stay at Willowthorne offers a unique getaway experience with fresh air and natural beauty where the sunsets are gorgeous, and the stars light up the sky! Our farm is host to nine acres of agricultural space that combines organic farming practices, education, and hospitality.

We offer tent camping for small groups and retreats. Our campgrounds overlook the pond and willow trees. We also allow space for small RVs or Campers (no power hook-up available currently).

Our area offers an incredible variety of recreational and sightseeing activities. Find peace and tranquility among nature or travel just 25 miles north to visit the heart of Chicago! We are central to many Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State Parks and beaches. Many good restaurants and breweries are also nearby. There is much to see and do around our quiet little corner.

We are an organic farm with bees and native pollinating insects. Broadcast pesticides, ie. Raid yard guard or similar products are not allowed on our property. You can spray your skin, clothing, and personal property with mosquito repellent in your designated camping area. Thank you for your commitment to conserving the natural ecosystem.

We would like to note that our farm is host to nine apiaries and chickens. The hives are a good distance away from the campsites, so guests are safe. We sell honey and organic eggs (based on availability). The honey is a real treat - the spring harvest is a lovely delicate, floral flavor from feed on the blueberry blossoms. In the summer months they feed on black locust and clover, creating a wildly rich and delicious honey. We also offer seasonal vegetables from our gardens, depending on what sprouting up. Please ask upon arrival if you are interested in any of these fresh goodies.

Please advise that we are a upick blueberry farm, open to the public during the month of July three days each week, from 9am-3pm. Families come to pick berries and enjoy the overall farm experience. The path to some of the blueberry patches is shared with the same path to the campgrounds. The campground itself is your private space during your stay. Please set up your campsite within the designated campground area. Upick guests are not allowed to walk across the campgrounds.  If you book your stay during the blueberry harvest season, we hope you will also enjoy the upick experience!  We look forward to having you!

The land is beautiful and the hosts are lovely! You can drive right up to the camping spot which was set up with fire ring, bbq set and nearby porta potty. We would definitely return!

I car camped here on a cross country trip with my fur babies. This place couldn’t have been more perfect. The pond was beautiful and the dogs got their energy out after a day of riding by swimming in it. The hosts are super nice people and they have a cute dog who played with our pups. And as a female traveling alone I felt very safe! Would absolutely recommend and stay again.

What went well was from the start, the hosts were super responsive. I requested and earlier arrival time than their check-in and they delivered. Mike and Gosia were very nice, I even got a chance to chat with them about homesteading, sustainable practices and more. They were very knowledgeable about the whole Chicagoland area. I plan to return to this spot before the winter hits, because I had such a nice time.

This is a super quiet area; a pond, farm and grass all protected by forest as a perimeter. The hosts have eggs, seasonal produce (blueberries, tomatoes etc) available for purchase, and even firewood. The thing that stood out for me was the amount of space between the sites as well. There is a very generous amount of privacy, which you cannot get at State parks or some other Hip Camps.

All in all, this host is a 10/10. Couldn't have asked for more hospitality and a very nicely cared for space. Mahalo Mike and Gosia!!

The location of the campsite was perfect! Beautiful pond and really well set up campsites. Gosia met us when we got there and gave us a nice orientation to the space. The eggs we bought were delicious! The only downside was the neighboring properties are kind of close. Both nights we were there different neighbors were having loud parties with lots of music. Not quite the peaceful camping experience we were looking for.

Mike & Gosia’s property is the perfect starting point for any adventure!

If timed properly, you can make it to the city within 35 minutes, and it will only take you about 40-45 minutes to get over to the Indiana Dunes parks which, by the way, are absolutely lovely!

Mike & Gosia’s place is simply beautiful, and our family of five enjoyed our stay and had zero complaints. Seriously… ZERO complaints. That’s rare for a traveling family 😅

We just wish we had more time to explore the property (berry picking, fishing, etc.), but that’s my job’s fault, not Mike & Gosia’s.

Make sure to ask for some local recommendations, and make sure to pick up some of their honey before you head on home — something we forgot to do — but I suppose that just gives us yet another reason to go back!

My son and I had a great time at this campsite. The grounds were very pretty and we enjoyed the blueberries. Gosia was a very gracious host.

One piece of advice though, it can be pretty loud. The campgrounds are right by a pond with a lot of noisy bullfrogs. Also, while it’s secluded, you can still hear the road and there were sirens/motorcycles. Some ear plugs or white noise would go a long way!
