Peaceful, secluded, spacious, and extremely private single campsite with spectacular mountain scenery on the beautiful North Fork Big Lost River. It is bordered by National Forest Land on two sides and surrounded by the largest wilderness in the lower 48 states!

The campsite is located in a clearing at the end of a 1,000 ft. private lane surrounded by thick willow bushes that block any view into it. You will be awed by the magnificent view of one of Idaho's most iconic peaks located in the Pioneer Mountain Range.

The river is a very short stroll from the campsite for swimming or fishing. Campfires are permitted unless weather conditions make it too dangerous or there are local fire restrictions in effect.  Campers must check with host before having fires.

Flat, easy access to the campsite will accommodate large RVs with a little maneuvering.

FASCINATING HISTORY: This property is a portion of an isolated and historic 60-acre homestead of the 1800s known as Big Lost Ranch. It was the only place for many miles around with lodging, pastures, as well as excellent spring water for moonshine, making it a notorious "watering hole" for area miners and wagon trains that transported ore to the train station in Ketchum.

The extremely difficult and dangerous feats of mule teams pulling very heavy ore wagons over the precariousy narrow and steep Trail Creek Summit are celebrated every year in Ketchum during the world-renowned Wagon Days Celebration that occurs on Labor Day weekend. The the culmination of the celebration is a unique non-motorized parade featuring equines and other animals performing under saddle or pulling restored antique, and sometimes quite amusing, wagons and carts. Hockey team members, on skates and wielding shovels, race around impressively throughout the parade picking up the animal droppings!

The grand finale of the parade is the "Big Hitch" consisting of a team of 20 mules, 2-abreast, pulling six huge wagons. In a highly technical feat, requiring onlookers to be quiet, the mule drivers use voice and jerk-lines to perform an amazing, seemingly impossible, 90° turn at the main intersection in Ketchum.

The ore wagons and photographic history of Ketchum can be viewed in a museum in Ketchum year-round.

Also not to be missed is a huge mural at the front of Atkinson's market that depicts a moment before an ore wagon is about to go off a cliff on Trail Creek Summit.

This was our second stay at Lestia's campsite. It has become one of our favorite places to camp in Idaho, as it's near so many great hiking trails. We love soaking in the beautiful views from every direction. The river behind the property is an added bonus, providing fun for our dogs and my fisherman husband. We always enjoy our chats with Lestia; she has led a very interesting life. We both admire her independent spirit and the evident love she has for her home in the mountains. Lestia, we hope to see you, Wilma, and Fred again next summer! Thanks for another fantastic stay!

Lestia is a lovely host. Her lot is secluded, and the camp site is at the back of her property. The river is right behind but be prepared to walk through some marshy land to get there (fyi no sandy area easily accessible). One of the host dogs played with ours which was great. Having hook ups was really nice. There are some hikes within driving distance but not too many in walking distance- we liked Burnt Aspen trail and the water fall hike. The surrounding scenery is beautiful. Bring bug spray and maybe some citronella candles! Overall one of our favorite camping experiences.

Very private with amazing views in all directions. We could hear the nearby Northfork of the Big Lost River flowing by. A deer passed through camp which had beautiful wild flowers around the campsite. Lestia, the North Fork Mayor, is a very gracious and friendly host. She had very helpful area information and directions for hiking, backroad drives and fishing. She recommended driving to her place from Mackay as we were pulling a twenty foot trailer. We made a day trip to Sun Valley and Ketchum on the Trail Creek road, about a 45 minute drive.

We enjoyed our stay here! Lestia is a great host with a beautiful space. She is extremely knowledgeable of the area. She offered great suggestions for hiking. The view from the campsite cannot be beat. The stars at night were amazing. We fell in love with her two dogs, Fred and Wlma.

A beautiful quite spot nesteled in within the national forest. The calm stream from the backside of the property provided soothing sounds. Total privacy provided for the camping location on the property.

Lestia was a wondeful host that taught us interesting facts about the property. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for seclution and an opportunity to connect with the nature than what most group campsites can provide.
