FASCINATING HISTORY: This property is a portion of an isolated and historic 60-acre homestead of the 1800s known as Big Lost Ranch. It was the only place for many miles around with lodging, pastures, as well as excellent spring water for moonshine, making it a notorious "watering hole" for area miners and wagon trains that transported ore to the train station in Ketchum.
The extremely difficult and dangerous feats of mule teams pulling very heavy ore wagons over the precariously narrow and steep Trail Creek Summit are celebrated every year in Ketchum during the world-renowned Wagon Days Celebration that occurs on Labor Day weekend. The the culmination of the celebration is a unique non-motorized parade featuring equines and other animals performing under saddle or pulling restored antique, and sometimes whimsical, wagons and carts. Hockey team members, on skates and wielding shovels, race around impressively throughout the parade picking up the animal droppings!
The grand finale of the parade is "The Big Hitch" consisting of a team of 20 mules, 2-abreast, pulling six huge wagons. In a highly technical feat, requiring onlookers to be quiet, the mule drivers use voice and jerk-lines to perform an amazing, seemingly impossible, 90° turn at the main intersection of Sun Valley Road and Main Street in Ketchum.
The ore wagons and photographic history of Ketchum can be viewed in a museum in Ketchum year-round.
Also not to be missed is a huge mural at the front of Atkinson's market that depicts a moment before an ore wagon is about to go off a cliff on Trail Creek Summit.

Thanks to Lestia's warm welcome, affiches and suggestions, we discovered a little paradise. The landscapes and sceneries are spectacular and the hiking trails countless. Lestia's dogs and horses are very affectionate. The view from spot was incredibly inspiring and calming. We were able to have access to the wifi which allowed us a lot of flexibility to plan our escapades during our stay. If you want to visit Ketchum and Sun Valley, the towns are 1 hour away by a very steep road, however. As there are no toilets and where to put the garbage in the area, make sure to plan everything. We will be back for sure next year. Thank you Lestia for the great conversation. We wish you good health.
Lestia’s spot is absolutely breathtaking!! We absolutely loved our stay and wish we had had even more time to explore the area. Lestia is such a kind lady, and we had some great conversations with her. Her dogs are the sweetest things ever, and so is her horse!
The only thing I would suggest for your stay is to make sure to have a good water purifier. The well water has a very strong and distinct metallic smell and taste. Not a big deal at all, but just something to be aware of.
Definitely check out this peaceful, quiet, remote spot within driving distance to Sun Valley/Ketchum, Craters of the Moon, and the beautiful Salmon-Challis National Forest.

Great place to stay. Lestia was a wonderful host. Stunning views and so nice to have electricity water and Wi-Fi when needed.
Lestia was wonderful host! So friendly and kind! If you are looking for a high mountain get away with water and power hookups, and an awe inspiring view, then this is the place. She has one spot near her cabin and a more private spot by the river. We enjoyed watching one of her dogs herding the horse as “Fred” sat with us preferring to lap up the love.

I am looking forward to your next stay here. Thanks for being great guests!
Lestia was an amazing host - very friendly! Enjoyed our stay on her beautiful property with a spectacular view of Devils Bedstead. Looking forward to staying on her river front spot next time! No cell service on the property so be sure to download driving directions in advance and be ready to unplug and relax!
