Waipi'o Lodge and Campsite is located in Kukuihaele less than a mile from majestic Waipiʻo Valley. In a place where horses and wild turkeys often wander by, this is the old Hawaiʻi. A place where neighbors stop to talk and life is sweet as the smell of sugar cane grass. You'll enjoy a wonderful ocean view and the many fruit and macadamia nut trees on the property. We occasionally offer farm fresh eggs from our flock of hens as well. We usually have perfect weather- sunshine, blue skies, a nice breeze, with temperatures in the 70's.
The campsite is part of the Waipi'o Lodge, which has three bedrooms and a common space living room. Our camping guests are welcome to use the outside kitchen and covered lanai. We also have high speed Wi-Fi.
Our guests tend to be excellent company, usually visiting from Europe, the US Mainland, Australia and beyond. Many use our place as a launching point for hiking in Waipi'o Valley or backpacking trips into Waimanu Valley.

Such a great place! The amenities are fantastic, Greg and his family are friendly and helpful. I camped, so I had the yard to myself. There is a stellar outdoor kitchen, access to a fridge and dishes, etc. The outdoor shower and bathroom are wonderful and have warm water with great water pressure and the common room and kitchen are cleaned up daily. There are fresh fruit and nut trees in the yard. The location is not at all far from the main road around the island and within easy distance to groceries, restaurants, etc.
The tent got quite dirty in the nightly wind + rain, but that's to be expected in that climate and while I was there Greg was in the process of installing wooden platforms so it seems like even that very minor displeasure is soon to be remedied.
They also had complimentary pancake mix which unexpectedly made my day.
Quiet, kid-friendly camping
We really enjoyed this -- just a quick drive to Waipi'o valley, and the site was clean and quiet. Woke to birdsong. The other guests were super friendly, and the outdoor kitchen was clean and had everything we needed -- same with the bathrooms. Greg really puts care into making this a nice place to stay. Very kid-friendly, too. Thank you Greg for creating such a great camping spot! =)
Camped here 2 nights. Had all the amenities for an easy camping experience. Clean and rustic, with super kind hosts. Great place to meet fellow travelers, and of course the best part, it being so close to Waipi’o entrance!!!
I would definitely come back again.
Great place to stay
Greg‘s place is a perfect stop on the way to Waipio valley. He is a nice and helpful guy who’ll help you with what you need. The camping area is located right behind the house in his beautiful garden, which offers you different fruits like tangerines and macadamia nuts (December). There is showers, toilets and a kitchen area with any utensils you’ll need. Recommending this Spot!
Cool place with lots of fruit trees. The bathrooms are really clean - my only complaint was one particular set of chimes that sounded like an alarm clock going off so I kept waking up. Other than that the place was great and is the perfect spot for getting ready to hike to Waimanu Valley.
Go go go!!
Awesome location and place, with hot shower, sink, flush toilet, tables with lights, fresh avocados and macadamia nuts, a fridge available, that's definitely glamping!
It's also very close to the Waipi'o lookout and access to the beach, I actually went there by foot (~15 min) to see the sunrise from the beach, something I definitely recommend!
Greg also seems super nice and was accomodating!
