Beautiful stay but a few hiccups
The property is beautiful and the environment is pleasant and comfortable with stunning, unpolluted views of the stars. The host, Kelly, was present, accommodating, and upfront about the early stages of this stay as it transforms into a camping/glamping/mini-resort combo. At the moment, there is room for improvement regarding clarity of access and amenities between the categories (e.g., use of the lanai for campers vs. glampers), but this is known to Kelly and appropriate fixes are in the works.
Full disclosure: We had a major issue come up during our stay, but we are happy to report that we were able to work it out with our host. While we were away during the day, the big dogs broke through our tent and ripped both our sleeping bags, leaving us without our critical camping gear for the rest of our visit to the island. Kelly provided us for a room for that night and we worked out together how get compensated for the losses. While the likely scenario is that the friendly dogs (the newest being 1 year old) were playing nearby, landed on the tent busting through, and tore the sleeping bags in a panic getting out, it is an issue of concern for the safety of future campers. The dogs are indeed gentle and friendly, but their large sizes mean that mistakes can also be large. We would recommend this stay in the future contingent on the hosts implementing a plan that ensures that the dogs do not pose a hazard to camper property.
Big island camping/glamping/resort
Kelly was an excellent host and the location was great! The main resort is gorgeous with many amenities including a movie room, pool table, and big wraparound porch. The grounds have so many different kinds of fruit and nut trees which you are welcome to sample. Good location with proximity to volcanoes National park. Highly recommend!
Beautiful spot!! The land is dripping with fruit and macadamia nuts which are happily and readily shared with campers. The showers were hot and lovely It feels important to note that there is not a kitchen for campers use and the pool that is the main photo is not normally for campers use either. Just so you don't go expecting those things and being disappointed. There are 3 giant and super lovely dogs that protect the land as well. Would recommend!
Great place to camp with good mojo!
Great place to camp with good mojo! Clean well kept and run! Did a great little known hike in The part of Volcano’s Nat park just a couple miles west. Good food close at Shaka’s also.
Macadamias- good, damaged shoe- ugh
Really liked the macadamia nut trees and it was great to see/eat the nuts. Very well maintained site. Could use some extra picnic tables.
one unfortunate thing was that my husband left his running sneakers outside our tent to dry and one of the dogs of the owner chewed up one damaging it somewhat (rip on the rear but still usable, sneaker was actually gone when we came back from daily activities and at first we had no idea what happened but thankfully turned up). We were glad to find it - so that's good b/c otherwise we would have to be buying new sneakers to run.
This campsite is the best option on the island! Strongly suggest the upgrade to the glancing plan! (REAL BEDS)! Thank you Kelly for making our stay as comfortable as possible! Mahalo!
Camping in a island orchard!
Spent a night in the orchard surrounded by Mac nut trees and singing birds. Unfortunately it rained the higher we were there but every si gel thing about the place was epic. We parked out jeep camper at the bottom of the property and complete solitude. The owner Kelly was an amazing host and told us about her entire property and the area. Showed us all the amenities. I don’t think I’ve ever had a camp shower that awesome before. Hot water and super clean. The main resort building had coffee for guests and campers alike. If you’re a dog person be prepared as the owner has three super well behaved dogs that greet everyone and love to be pet by guests. They roam around the area and make you feel very safe. You can sample macadamia nuts at the resort as well. Best 45 dollars ever spent on a campsite! Highly recommended.
