Our 2-acre pocket of paradise is situated on the pristine Rock Creek, just a few miles upstream from the famous Lula Lake Land Trust core preserve. You'll enjoy a private wooded oasis where you can splash around in the creek, find over fifty species of native plants and wildflowers, search for fossils, and possibly catch a glimpse of the elusive hellbender: the largest salamander in North America. Within a few minutes' drive of the campsite are several trails for hiking or mountain biking. Lula Lake hosts public access days several times a month, and for a truly "grand" experience, you can visit Cloudland Canyon State Park, just 10 miles down the road. After your day of adventure, return to camp to enjoy a campfire and a hot dinner prepared by your hosts. At night you'll sleep in one of our awesome Tentsile suspended hammock tents, or a traditional ground tent if you prefer, and get lulled to sleep by the sound of the creek flowing over the rocks.Dog friendly! Peaceful place to relax and soak in nature! Just a 20-minute drive to downtown Chattanooga. Perfect for a weekend with friends
Awesome spot to spend time with friends. We had a few families all camped together- the hammock tent was a hit for kids and adults alike, and being right by the creek was so nice. Christie was a great host and ensured we had everything we needed to have a good time. We managed to get 3 smaller campers down to the lower camping area, but I would only recommend that with experienced drivers. The road noise is a thing, but I would say the other positives far out way that one negative. Would definitely stay there again!

Hellbender hangout were perfect for a mountain biking group of 4. If you’re looking to trail ride from Cloudland Canyon to Chattanooga this spot could not be situated any better! Christie was really easy to work with and very accommodating. She and her husband have created a really nice spot with a positive spirit!

Great for families
My middle schoolers needed a weekend away from screens and this site was perfect. We brought the dog and some legos, books, and hiking boots and had a nice chill weekend exploring the creek and surrounding area. The campsite and tents were clean and private. The worst thing I can possibly say is there was some occasional vehicle noise from the road nearby but that was also a nice reminder we weren’t isolated in the middle of nowhere. I like to give well rounded reviews so I really looked hard for some criticism but I have none. Absolutely fantastic hosts, I could tell the site wasn’t heavily used so I hope they get more traffic soon. I would recommend for a larger family gathering as well, there were lots of nice spots to pitch a tent or park an RV. If in doubt, book it!

We enjoyed our time at Hellbender Hangout! It is a lovely well-appointed site with a shaded picnic table and a nice established fire pit with plenty of seating. Our kids really enjoyed the suspended tents and the sound from the creek is very peaceful. The only minor drawback is the proximity to the road and some barking dogs from the neighbors but those were manageable and didn't take much away from a lovely family weekend.

The directions were easy to follow. Upon arrival the site had potable water, a camp fire and wood ready to go, camp chairs, a picnic table and two hammock style tents already hung. They even left soap in case it was needed. There is a portapotty but we did not use it or enter it. The site is right next to a small creek which you can hear all night and it just as pictured. We never met the host but she did communicate thru the app and I felt as though she would have been available if needed. There is also a Dollar General within 5 minutes. We went white water rafting on the ocoee which was about an hour from this site and hiking at Cloud Land State Park which is close by. The only negative comment I could make regarding this site was the proximity to the road. You can't see the site from the road but it is maybe 200 yards above the site, so during the day you can hear frequent cars pass by. It was not terrible at night and by late night it wasn't noticeable. Also, while this is not a negative and only an observation, I would not try and take more than 2 cars due to limited space at the bottom of the hill. Overall, I would recommend and will likely return if we revisit the State Park.

Hidden gem
Great little spot by the creek. Nice level site and fire pit. We loved all the native plants in the area and spent a day and Cloudland canyon just down the road. Very convenient to all kinds of hiking. Would definitely recommend a 4 wheel drive because of the loose gravel! We had a wonderful stay.
