Our property has been in the family for a little over 60 years.  Susie's parents, Jesse and Bobbie Hobby, purchased the present 5 acres in the 1960s when this area was a huntcamp called Sportsman's Retreat. The homestead was established in 1978 when Jesse retired from the Air Force, and the family moved to Inverness and built the present house. For the past 44 years, the Homestead has been a home and refuge to both family and so many others. Susie and Mark became the owners in 2015 when Bobbie passed away, and they felt a calling to return home to their roots after having spent the first 33 years of their marriage traveling the globe with the Air Force, and then pursuing second careers in California. They are very much looking forward to living out the rest of their days caring for the land that Jesse and Bobbie put so much time and love into. It is their hope that you will experience the beauty and tranquility that has brought peace and joy to so many.

Not really an open field camping ex
The host was super nice since the moment we got there she gave us a tour of the property and told us to pick a spot . We walked around and picked a spot in the back of the property . The only thing I did not like is that there is not open land or space that is not close (by 50 feet) from the main House, the work shop or other houses in the back. The only part of the property that was private was full of rusted car parts, trailers and other stuff scattered around. So there was not to manny choices to the contrary of what I tought having in mind that the add stayed it is a 5 acre property. I really felt like I was camping in the backyard of a home rather than in the open field. That said the rest was great. the compost toilet inside of a (camping tent) was clean, water hoses everywhere to use at our discretion the animals where a nice touch, if you dont mind waking up at 6 am by the ruster.

The Helton Homestead Site 2
Roomy campsite near several Florida
The area was spacious, clean, with access to a refrigerator, sink, and electricity. Inverness is equidistant to Dunnelon and Rainbow Springs. Very convenient for tubing, kayaking, especially at Rainbow Springs, Rainbow and Crystal Rivers.

Extremely nice and accommodating hosts... very flexible great little farm in the country. Nothing but nice things to say. You better like farm animals cause those roosters like to talk....

Easter weekend stay.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Helton Homestead. We had two nights free in between state parks and chose this location because there were a couple of animals on premises which out daughter loves. Susie and her husband were really kind and welcoming. Susie showed around their beautiful property, gave us some history on it, and showed us where we could get comfortable. We were there on Easter weekend and they even let our little one join in on their families Easter egg hunt. What a nice family! Our little one had so much fun and we were very grateful. We would highly recommend staying there and would definitely stay there again.
