Escape the noise of the every day hustle and bustle as you relax and take in some of the most precious and magical gifts of nature during your stay at Hidden Acres. Our 12+ acre property borders the Pisgah National Forest. Enjoy serenity in the woods surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, crisp meadows, a sparkling cool trout-stocked stream and fresh mountain air - all while retreating in your cozy and private camping area.
Located in the heart of the Pisgah National and Nantahala Forests, the Balsam Grove community is known for its secluded trails and waterfalls. There are a plethora of activities to do in nearby surrounding area. Explore in adventures like hiking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing, tubing, fly-fishing and kayaking. Transylvania county is also known as “The Land of Waterfalls”, where you’ll find over 250 spectacular waterfalls. If you are a guest staying with us at Hidden Acres and would like to fish the stocked creek, we charge a fee of $25 per person per day for a catch and release style of fishing. If you want to keep and cook your prized trout, you may pay an additional fee of $8 per fish with a limit of 2 fish per person.
Just nine miles away, take in a day of scenic beauty up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. You’ll discover amazing long-range views of the Appalachian Mountain Range, stunning waterfalls, fields of wildflowers and wild blueberries, trails, over-looks and elevations that reach more than 5,000 feet. Depending on the time of year you are visiting, you can catch a floral show as the seasons change. Graveyard Fields is a very popular hiking trail at milepost 418. Two beautiful waterfalls and hiking with views of surrounding mountains including Black Balsam Knob. Afternoon picnics and sunsets on the Parkway are highly recommended as well as star gazing on a clear night is indubitably hypnotizing and will leave you awestruck!!
Just a few nearby waterfalls under a 15 minute drive from campsite:
3.7 mi- Living Waters. Three easy waterfalls all within a short walk. French Broad Falls, Mill Shoals Falls, and Bird Rock Falls.
7.5 mi- Courthouse Falls. 45 ft. waterfall that plunges into a deep pool. Perfect spot for a dip on a hot summer’s afternoon. Ten minute fairly easy hike from trailhead.
7.7 mi- Paradise Falls Trailhead. One of the best secret swimming holes! A magnificent oasis. Challenging and steep hike, but worth it.
11 mi- Upper Dill Falls & Lower Dill Falls. 50 ft. Waterfall (lower) with just a short easy hike. Upper Dill falls is beautiful and tucked into a lush cove.
7.9 mi- Wolf Lake. Better known to the locals as Wolf Lake, this 183 acre high elevation lake offers spectacular scenery and great swimming, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding.

You will find a peaceful and serene feeling as you are nestled within fern gardens and shaded woods with your own private creek area. Witness deer and other wildlife right within the bounds of your stay. A private-access creek stocked with rainbow trout, providing our guests a fun fishing opportunity (for a fee) while you enjoy the picturesque surroundings as you cast your line and reel in a beautiful trout. We are located on nearly 13 acres and border the Pisgah National Forest. There are several waterfalls in the area surrounding us here, all under 10 miles away. Amazing hiking trails spread throughout the area. Wolf Creek Lake is under 8 miles away with a public boat ramp and restrooms to launch your canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. 9 miles away from us is the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Enjoy this wooded creekside camping area (not just a spot) including a clean porta-potty, water hose and electricity station. We also provide for you a park style charcoal grill, campsite trash cans along with a dishwashing bin and a built-in tabletop area. Gentle lighting is placed on pathways to help guide you at night and also give you that perfect warm and cozy feeling.
There is also a nearby Wifi hot spot located 2.9 miles away at the Balsam Grove community center. We do also have firewood available for purchase and ready for you at your campsite.
We also have fresh farm eggs available from our very own chickens. The rooster’s crow is a reminder to collect fresh eggs from the chicken coop, a treasured morning ritual, adding an enchanting freshness that elevates your breakfast experience. A self serve set-up where you can experience first hand where your food comes from.
