2024 total eclipse
In the path of the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse.
Learn more about this land: We are set high on the piney east bank of the Kennebec River. The view is of the setting sun over the untouched hillsides on the opposite bank or the rising sun illuminating and bringing to life that same hillside while you take your first peak of morning. The river rushes by, not a house to be seen. In the distance a loon frolics and sings out it's soulful call. Bald eagles soar over head, fishing, scanning the river valley. Owls hooting in the valley, come closer in the night to see who is still up. There is an echo in the darkness, works during the day too. The stars blaze overhead in the night sky, watch "satellites" track across heavens and the Aurora Borealis, if you are lucky and still up around the camp fire. It is here in front of our camp, where The Kennebec River continues to flow but begins slowing down, stacking up depth behind the Moscow Dam and turning into Wyman Lake, 14 miles of the most scenic boating or paddling you can imagine. 200 yards north of the camp, The Appalachian Trail crosses the river, watch hikers waiting for the famous canoe ferry crossing. Or, hike a section of the trail, Pierce Pond is a healthy 2 hr hike from the camp, to a pristine pond for a remote dip or some fishing. Bring that kayak or stand up paddle board you bought way back when. The river is fun right here, explore for an hour, a day or days. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing are huge in West Forks, (10 minutes North up 201, watch out for deer and moose) you'll paddle The Dead, The Kennebec and the Penobscot rivers, all the major tour companies are very local and there are cool bars and restaurants. You can tube down from the Forks right to the cabin in a couple of hours. We have a big Glamping tent on the property too, that is listed separately, rent it too if you want the space for friends or the place all to yourselves.Right on the Kennebec River with a pristine undeveloped view of nature. This is basic camping but the setting is amazing. We are right on the water so prepare for water sports like canoeing, Kayaking, bring a boat if you have one, paddle board, fish, pan for gold. You should hike a section of the Appalachian trail, it crosses just up river, hike into Moxie Falls. We are locally famous for the Class III-IV rapids so raft, kayak or canoe on the Dead River, the Upper Kennebec, the Penobscot rivers. You may be sharing the property with renters of our brand new 2023 Glamping tent or you could rent both spots and have room for friends or the place all to your self.

Love it, love it, love it
What an adorable private spot this is! This is right at the Kennebunk River and we got all the privacy we wanted. It is beautiful and quiet, and you get forest and the river at the same time. The spot is meticulously clean and you even have a porta potty! What a luxury! The instructions are very good, and the spot is easy to be found. We already know that we will come back again.

Beautiful site(s) on the river
You can’t beat the views on Erik’s land. Easy access to the calm river made for perfect paddle boarding conditions. I looked forward to sitting by the fire each night and listening to the loons in the distance as the moon rose in front of us. It was a spectacular show! Additionally, Erik’s directions were spot-on and the car accessibility made the entire trip a breeze. Highly recommend! A couple disclaimers about this site: Neither us nor the folks camping next to us were aware that there was more than one tent site. I knew they were renovating to put up some additional spaces, but this wouldn’t be complete by the time we arrived and we didn’t feel it was clear in the listing that there was more than one camp site. There’s a lot of space between sites, but just know that you won’t be alone. We couldn’t find this anywhere in the listing until we booked and scrolled through the rules that said “Book both sites or be a good camping neighbor”. Thankfully, our neighbors were wonderful! The outhouse was taken over by spiders, so a little maintenance there would be good. Also, lots of black flies and mosquitos out this time of year. When the wind blows you get some respite, but be sure to bring some trusty bug spray and you’ll be able to relax and take in the beauty of this spot.

Flashing Moose Camping
Relaxing River Escape
Moose river campsite is the perfect spot to get away from it all. This campsite is located right on the river and has breathtaking views! It is conveniently located but still gives you the solitude you want while camping. Watching the morning glow light up the clouds over the river was magical!
