Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles.

Stay at Yip camp!
We loved our stay on Thomas's land. The little home was perfect for our needs, bed and pillows were sooo comfy! Thomas was so welcoming, informational and kind. Having morning tea with thomas and yip (cutest, quietest dog ever) was highlights in our trip to the Big Island. Highly suggest Yip Camp for a off grid experience to the island. We stayed there for 5 nights and explored a lot of the island, felt relatively central to most of the places we wanted to visit. The places we go are a backdrop for the people we meet. Thomas is an absolute legend, thanks for having us! Much love, Mahalo

Fern Forest RV Site 2
Thomas is an extremely friendly and welcoming host with the cutest little dog. His place is in the middle of a rainforest so the only thing you can hear is the mother nature. We stayed in a rooftop tent and felt very safe. We got to see beautiful starry night sky, open a fire and when it started raining we hid in a small covered area with a table where we enjoyed our dinner. The hot shower is outdoors but don't let that scare you away. It is still decently covered and you get the best views! That was probably the highlight of our stay.

A wonderful stay
I really enjoyed my 2 night stay in the cabin. The bed was comfortable, the outdoor shower was hot and the property was beautiful. Thomas and the dog were wonderful hosts. As a single woman I had no concerns staying at this off grid place. My first Hipcamp experience was great

Rooster Tent
Thomas was a great host who went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. His land is beautiful, it's closely located to the National Park, and he even provides free firewood! That's something most hosts don't do. Highly recommend!
