Let us help you reconnect to Nature and recharge your Spirit near the Indian Peaks Wilderness, along the scenic Peak-to-Peak Highway. You can "have it all" on wilderness trails perfect for walking, hiking, biking, and running; or catch a concert at well-known music venues close by. We are centrally located to many activities you may want to do, and there are just two sites a distance apart, The sites are limited to a total of 2-3 people-so it's quiet, and amenities include outside access to the in-house shower. It's all calling to you in these mountains, down the road. So, step outside your ordinary! Please note that we are up at 8420' altitude with attitude. It is very important to stay hydrated (with water), and prepared for rain and wind. Being a rural mountain area, it's best to come no later than 6:30pm so one doesn't get lost, and you can get settled. The Area -  We are about 15 minutes from the little mountain town of Nederland that has a variety of restaurants, brew pubs, shops, and music venues. In addition, we aren't that far along the scenic Peak-to-Peak Highway from Brainard Lake Recreational area, Rocky Mountain National Park, and further down, the world-famous music venues of Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, and Red Rocks amphitheater in Morrison. The Space - The space is a few yards from the neighborhood road. However, it is very lightly traveled and barely visible from the road. Day and night are eerily peaceful and quiet from what you may be use too. Other than the sound of birds, and the natural world. Along the path from your parking space, it's relatively flat with trees, wildflowers, and vegetation. The path does have a few solar lights to guide you at night. The first thing you will come to is a traditional Plains Indians Medicine Wheel. It is there for your use for meditation, prayer, as a quiet space to move around in, or just hang out. As you walk along, next you will come to a comfortable wooden picnic table. There is a large water cooler provided with clean fresh cold potable water too.  The Tipi - Ah, the Medicine Shield tipi. is 14' diameter, and is pitched on packed earth. It is raised up about 6" from the ground which is standard. Tipis are not round; they are oval shaped like an egg. The floor has a heavy round indoor-outdoor carpet covering most of it. However, being oval, the floor is not totally covered. The door is a non-locking flip open canvas door. Be aware that occasionally insects and other small creatures may find their way inside. If this happens, chase them out with the broom provided. If it's windy the wind can make spooky noises at night, and may cause the tipi poles to make creaking sounds, the smoke flaps and the door to flap. Accommodations - In addition to 2-camp cots (and a sleeping pad for a third guest); 3-adult size 3 season *sleeping bags; 3 portable LED lanterns; 2 portable folding camp chairs; a small round metal bedside folding table, 2 clear plastic storage boxes for clothing, etc.. *Nights can be chilly (or cold). While sleeping bags are provided, it is recommended that guests bring their own sleeping bags or blankets. Tipi’s are open at the top. During heavy rainstorms, some water may drip inside. Take note of the forecast. If rain is in the forecast. Best to be prepared and bring some tarps to put over bedding in case of storms. *The Pit Toilet - A pit toilet does not have water and does not flush. It is a pit. It contains a wooden chair with a toilet seat, and is stocked with a roll of toilet paper, bag to dispose of paper, etc., and a metal ash can with ashes and a cup, to lightly sprinkle on poop to keep any smell down and flies away. *The multipurpose deck - To the west of the cabana is a wooden deck with solar string lights. It could be used for meditation, yoga, or whatever your pleasure is. Wildlife Moose - Look around for wildlife, especially moose. If you see a moose under no circumstances approach it. And, do not run. Slowly and quietly move away. Dogs are viewed as predators. Keep them leashed and quiet. Bears - have a sense of smell up to 5 miles. Do not leave anything with even the slightest scent such as wrappers, crumbs, etc. in camp. Best to put all food and trash in your vehicle with the windows up and doors locked. Mountain Lions – If you see a lion, under no circumstances approach it. And, do not run. Slowly and quietly move away. Don’t turn your back; bend, crouch down; or look into its eyes. Elk, Deer, Turkeys – There is never just one. Slow down, or stop; look around, and wait till you don’t see any others (attempting to cross the road). *About 100 yards from the tipi is another guest space for a tent or small camper vans. If it is occupied the toilet and multipurpose deck are considered shared space.

This is The Place
Great stay!
This site is just as described, quiet (but closer to some traffic than we expected), close to many hiking trails, we saw many road bikers(there was some type of endurance bike race in the county that weekend) yet very peaceful. There is SO MUCH to do within 40 minutes of this little haven. Of course, if you don't want to do anything but enjoy the birds, squirrels, and the wind through the trees, there's plenty of that too! Atashnaa is helpful, a delight to work with, and very accommodating. Should we ever be camping in the Boulder area again, we would definitely visit The Medicine Shield again!

The Medicine Shield Tipi
Recommend for a peaceful stay
We had a beautiful stay at the Medicine Shield Tipi - it was peaceful, grounding and I truly felt like it nourished my soul. There’s so many great places to sit with nature here, admire the aspens and listen to the birds. The sunrise was absolutely incredible and the cool mountain air was refreshing. We also had a great time in town - delicious food, cute shops, farmers markets and only about 15 mins away! The Tipi itself was cozy, minimalistic, thoughtfully had 2 bins for our clothes and multiple lanterns for night with a large beautiful indoor/outdoor rug. Two cots and two sleeping bags were provided and clean, we did decide to bring extra blankets and sleeping bags since it was a cooler night. Atashnaa was a incredible host she was quick to answer any of my questions, accommodating and we truly enjoyed her stories!
