The rustic cozy cabin was definitely rustic and cozy! Yet it was fully equipped with Wi-Fi, TV, a VHS player, lots of movies, a record player, and Netflix. It was peaceful, warm and the surrounding land was beautiful. I even saw three deer walking by. We also loved the hot tub at night! Being cozy/small, it was a little hard to move around with my partner and two dogs. And yes, there's a beautiful bathroom available, but you have to walk outside to get to it. Not too bad except I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night every night. I would have brought our portable toilet with us if I had realized how everything was situated. All in all, Anna and her husband were great and responsive, and we truly enjoyed ourselves! Thank you!

We booked this cabin through HipCamp and were left with rather mixed impressions. The cabin itself is very cozy, styled like a hunting lodge, with a true “retro” atmosphere. Inside everything is simple but tasteful — it really feels like a little corner of nature where you can disconnect from everyday life. We genuinely enjoyed this authenticity and sense of peace.
Unfortunately, at the very end of our stay, a situation occurred that spoiled the overall impression. As we were getting ready to leave, the hosts let out their large dog. The animal behaved quite aggressively, which felt unsafe — especially since we had our 4-month-old baby with us. We really appreciated the atmosphere of this place, but it would be important for the hosts to consider this issue with pets, as guest safety matters a lot.
Overall, the place has great potential for a wonderful stay, and we sincerely hope this aspect will be addressed.

Beautiful property with beautiful views! It’s hard to believe you’re only a few minutes from the city.
The sunsets by the fire are incredible!
I would recommend, because the property is south facing, that you may want to plan your spot based on how much sun you want.
Lots of cows, deer, pocket gophers, and ground squirrels to spot while you relax in the peace and quiet.

It was such a beautiful spot. We tented it for one night by the river. Everything was pretty wet but we thought it was worth it for the view and sounds of the river. We had our dogs with us who loved being able to play in the water. Just such a perfect place. We wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely coming back for our river spot again if we can.

I love this campground 10/10 would recommend. I will admit that I was nervous to pick this spot after reading some of the reviews, however we needed a spot for the long weekend that was close to the city since I was hosting a nature ceremony so we needed somewhere that could accommodate lots of guests not too far. They have quite a lot of land out there with lots of cool things to explore. The moment we drove in we seen horses and bison! 🦬 (In a pen now, they no longer just wander) These man at the check in trailer was very friendly and gave us lots of wood for good price. There was lots of interesting sights on the property, a modified bus, some farm equipment and playground structures and what looked like an indigenous market area, I suppose to some it might look like junk however we all thought it was cool. They have several different sections-a glamping area with domes, some tipis, trailer area and tenting area. This is a perfect spot if you are coming with a large group. Access to the river (perfect for hot summer days, thank god cuz it was so hot when we were there) And this place is close enough to Bragg Creek you can run to town if u need anything and you will still get cell service here. 👌 And the outhouses weren't to bad when we went.

We absolutely loved our stay! The bed is so comfortable, they provided extra blankets and towels. The entire campsite had everything you needed from a stove, lighters, water, a shower, etc. The owner went above and beyond when we had some things taken but everything was promptly returned. It’s secluded and quiet and absolutely beautiful!

Saying you're staying in a "light industrial area" is both true and not. This is a little oasis and so very comfortable. We actually wanted to stay longer but it was already booked after us. Nice fire pit, a few bunny rabbits hopping around, and no problems at all. It feels secluded, the neighbors are quiet (ok, except maybe for the concrete plant across the way, but honestly it felt like white noise).
I was thinking around the 3rd day that this would make for a great permanent living space. So yup, it's worth it.
Oh yea, it's right in the middle of freaking Calgary. LOL!

Where to go
Hit the Slopes
Two ski areas offer options for steep mountain terrain. Nakiska and Fortress Mountain are both great mountains, each having six lifts open to the public. While Banff draws skiers from around the world, these smaller ski areas are often overlooked. If you enjoy low traffic and great powder, consider taking a ski vacation to Kananaskis Country. Nakiska is less than an hour from Calgary and was an Olympic ski site. Fortress Mountain has 30 kilometres of slopes with some challenging terrain.
Spray Lakes Reservoir
As the largest lake in Kananaskis, the long shoreline offers plenty of space for boaters. Camping is available on the lake and the water is popular for summer fishing, water skiing and swimming. The reservoir has large lake trout, whitefish and plenty of rainbow trout to pursue. Prevailing winds do limit water skiing to the early morning hours but they do make for excellent windsurfing. The region doesn’t have many large bodies of water and this is one unique lake that is surrounded by mountains.
Hike the Trails
If there’s one thing that Kananaskis offers, it’s a never-ending network of trails. Hiking and biking are both popular and there are some serious peaks to pursue on foot. Smutwood Peak is one of those magical looking mountains that requires some scrambling to reach the summit. It has several high lakes with turquoise waters sitting picturesquely below a jagged mountain. Read’s Tower and Tent Ridge a few more options with incredible scenery.
Bow Valley Provincial Park
This park might be the pinnacle of any trip to Kananaskis Country. The Bow and Kananaskis Rivers meet in the park which is just under an hour from Calgary. Paddling and fishing on the Bow River are both highlights for visitors. Extensive hiking trails are perfect for day trips or overnight backcountry trips. Test your legs against the steep terrain and don’t forget a camera for the incredible vistas. This is grizzly country and visitors should carry bear spray when navigating the park.
When to go
Summer is really the best time for hikers wanting to climb the peaks and reach the backcountry on foot. July and August specifically are ideal for penetrating the backcountry. September is another great month with changing colors and cooler night temperatures. October can be idyllic but also can experience early winter storms. Winter itself is a nice time to visit for skiers and snowsport enthusiasts. The primary highways remain open but the backroads are often closed or difficult to navigate.
