SiloSide Barn and Homestead

The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

The lean-to can sleep 3-4 people in a cozy arrangement, as the floor is approximately 10 by 9 feet.

Onion River Campground

Onion River Campground is connected with Onion River Intentional Community. We hold events throughout our season, which runs from May 1st through October 31st.

We offer spacious sites along the Winooski River, or come find a private nook tucked up in the apple orchard, next to the plum tree by the pond, or in the high meadow.

Our amenities include:  

26 spacious sites for rigs: 24 W/E and 6 W/E/S

Plus 23 acres of private tenting options

Owner-operated

River access: Great fishing, wading, tubing, swimming 

Orchards and greenhouse: Join us for the harvest

Trails, meadows, waterfall access

Found a friend on the old rail bed. This used to be a rail line that ran all the way up to Canada, but the tracks were removed and now it's a perfect path for hiking and biking...just a few minutes walk from camp!

Clear fall nights are perfect for star viewing, and this campground is far from city lights.  Amazing seeing the fall colors still popping in the fire glow.

Woodbury Meadows

  We live on 52 wooded acres in a natural area surrounded by lakes and ponds just 14 miles north of Montpelier VT, our state capital. We are located on the Green Mountain  Gravel Growler bike packing trail and have lots of hiking , biking, boating and  swimming opportunities nearby. Our amenity's include a bath house, One 30 amp RV site  and  4  tent/small RV non electric sites. We are 100% solar powered and have WIFI but no cell service.  We cater to small quiet groups who can enjoy our peaceful setting. 

  We are a family friendly, non smoking campground. Pets on leashes are OK. Quiet time is all the time :~). 12 and under free, no Generators.

Thornhill Farm

Come stay on our diversified farm! We grow winter rye. There are trails to hike on Barr Hill and a great view. Swimming is nearby in Caspian Lake. Hill Farmstead brewery is just over a mile away.

Goldilocks Cabin

I am an interior designer, who realized I could use my particular talents to create the kind of unique vacation rental that I myself am always seeking. In this new world of on-line vacation rentals and professionally managed properties, the vacation rental industry has become commoditized, with one home just like the other, for a hotel-like experience. Goldilocks cabin is the cure for this predictability—without giving up any of the comfort you would find at a fine hotel. The cabin has a full bath, kitchen with all conveniences, one bedroom with queen bed, sleeping loft with full bed, and a pull out sofa in the living room. There is central heat and a wood stove in the winter. A/C units in the summer. The cabin has two decks, a gas bbq grill, and a fire pit. Cabin is on four wooded acres and is on Stowe Hollow Road, a residential neighborhood of widely spaced homes, and about 25 yards off the road. So if you are looking for a secluded cabin in the woods Goldilocks might not be for you.  If however you are looking for a conveniently located well appointed cabin, your are at the right place. Goldilocks is a mile from Main Street in Stowe, and 8 miles to Mt. Mansfield and skiing. Hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, sledding, and swimming holes all a few minute drive from the cabin.

Clyde River Camping

In August of 2021 we had been approached by folks wanting to camp on our property because of the beautiful views and riverfront water access. In keeping it reasonable and safe, we found HIPCAMP offered us the best venue to do so. Site #1 is camper/RV accessible with lots of room for friends, vehicles and a field to set up tents or game playing areas. If deep woods camping is what you prefer, we offer that as well. We offer free firewood, picnic tables and outhouses. Fresh water pond for cooling off and bathing. 100 acres of trails through the woods, fields and 3/4 mile of river frontage for all your outdoor activities.

Kayaking and canoeing from all of our sites (Rentals available nearby at https://www.clyderiverrecreation.com), fishing, bird and big game watching (see actual game cam pictures in our photo gallery), mountain climbing and mountain biking (Best mountain bike trails in New England available close by in Burke, Vt.
