Compass Rose Campground is 49 acres of camping fun.  You can choose to go deep into the woods for a maximum camping experience or stay closer to the modern amenities.  A full kitchen is available as well as bathrooms with showers.  No potable water is available.  The pond was created and stocked in 2022. Bring your fishing poles and rafts!! Kayaks are available for campers also.  There are many, many trails available for hiking including an enchanted fairy trail.  Train lovers will especially welcome the distant sounds of the iron horse passing by.  Numerous activities on-site and nearby including mountain biking, fishing, boating on Lake Erie, horseback riding, many, many wineries, antiquing, pottery shops, Panama Rock (28 min), Chautauqua Institute (25 min), Lillydale (35 min), Waldameer Amusement Park and Water World (40 min), Presque Isle (40 min), Casino (30 min) and much more. The nearby towns have unique down home diners and shops.  Only 4 sites per night will be rented out.  Monthly discount rates are available. Please contact me for the discount code.

Too Far Out Farm

Nestled in Pennsylvania Dutch country, between a large dairy farm and the Erie National Wildlife Refuge, Too Far Out Farm is favored for its natural beauty and tranquility. Residents of TFO Farm include horses, sheep, and various other friendlies of the canine and feline varieties. You could set your watch by the neighbors' evening visits: A herd of very social dairy cows, who always seem to mosey on down right around supper time every evening.

The primitive campsite will accommodate tents or a small RV. Don't worry about nosey or annoying camp neighbors, because we only book one group at a time - YOURS! The campsite includes a large fire ring, a limited amount of cut and stacked wood, a composting toilet and a small camp table. There is room for a smaller rig if you want to bring your RV, riding horse or ATV. We can accommodate up to six horses in our outdoor round pen as long as they get along with one another. (Sorry, no sheltered stalls or run-in sheds for the horses, as yet.) Trail riding on the back roads of Penn's woods delights many a visitor all four seasons of the year.

The farm is within walking distance of hiking and cross-country ski trails that meander through the Erie National Wildlife Refuge. Also, Crawford County's best kept secret for Perch, Walleye and Blue Gill fishing (including ice fishing) is a mile away at Sugar Lake.  If you come for the hunting, (in season) let us know in advance and we will help you secure the proper permits and learn the rules of the refuge.

Speaking of the wildlife, come armed with your binoculars and a good camera. Common sightings include high and low-flying Bald Eagles and other birds of prey, as well as many varieties of colorful, native song birds. You may also encounter other woodland creatures, such as, White-Tail Deer, Black Bears, Coyotes, and of course, smaller furry critters, like raccoons, fox, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, beavers, ground hogs and opossum. Be sure to steer clear of the skunks and the porcupines, though!

Upon request, farm stewards, Deb and/or Mike Peterson will ride along to guide you on a horseback trail ride on the public back roads (minimal vehicular traffic) surrounding TFO Farm and on the refuge.

Although we are NOT a registered campground, we do participate in the Hipcamp Land Share Program. Currently, we have one primitive campsite (for tents or a small RV) available. Please only one approved vehicle is permitted on the campsite. Other registered guest vehicles may park in another designated area. Please go to the main house upon arrival and we will direct you from there.

Flannel Dog Farm

Located less than a mile from Lake Erie,  our 1860's brick farmhouse is an area icon. This seven acre homestead is where we grow our own food, raise sheep, chickens and bees, bake sourdough bread, brew beer and wine, and create art in Copper Leaf Studios.  We are a monarch waystation and have several acres dedicated to native pollinators, plants, and trees. 

Much like our farm's name, our place is warm, welcoming, rustic, and a bit gritty. We are advocates of inclusion, local community, and sustainable living.  We love telling and hearing good stories.  We believe in the powers of kindness and peace.  We hope to share our part of the world with others.

We have firewood onsite for HipCamper use. Our breakfast is not to be missed (included for Peace Portal & Covered Wagon sites; optional for tent campers) and features farm fresh & local ingredients. 

We offer an outhouse with a composting toilet as well as a traditional flushable half bath with running water and power.

Pets are welcome.

Sawdust FarmCamp

Welcome to Sawdust FarmCamp! Located in Geneva, Ohio. We have four different sites to choose from: 1 tent site, 2 glamping tent sites, and 1 cabin.
We also have the option to book all our sites for a 15 person retreat with spacial extras only available for that listing. 

Portable toilet available, pets welcome, campfires permitted.

Potable water and hot water showers are only available at or cabin and our glamping sites only have solar camp showers (not the tent site). New hot showers are being planned for the 2024 season.

Naturalist  Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976.

They then were published as the book “Letters From  Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum.  It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in  Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden.

In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland  Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers.

The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated. 

We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.

Outside the Yurt, they have a wagon for you to transport goods too!

Blue Flame Propane heater helps supplement wood burning cook stove while you sleep. Lots of books, games and some art materials.

The lake has a mowed path so you can camp anywhere along side it.

Camping in Wine Country

Purchased by my grandfather back in 1953 it has been a diverse fruit farm for many years.  Currently we have almost 200 acres, a lot of it woods.  We don't currently grow the crops that we did but we have planted some wine grapes in the last several years.  As we also have a winery, The Winery at Spring Hill, we wanted to get some of our own grapes in the ground.  We have several places for tent camping and we have a large parking lot at the winery for RV parking.Learn more about this land:Right in the middle of Ohio's Wine Country!  Enjoy an evening at our winery or take the day and explore the 26 wineries in the area.Woods and fields surround the camping area.  Close to the natural beauty of the Grand River (State Wild and Scenic River).  Just a few miles from Geneva State Park and Geneva-on-the-Lake.  Lots of activities: wine tasting, covered bridges, boating/canoeing/kayaking, fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, birding, nightlife, history, golfing, and lots of natural beauty.
