It has allowed us the opportunity to enjoy everything Central Oregon has to offer and we hope you too can experience and enjoy it as much as we do. It's all about making memories. It's also perfect for Fall/Winter fun and avoiding the summer crowds. We are a hard working family of 5 with 2 dogs and a number of other small animals. We run a quiet / tidy space with access to public lands and walking trails. The 2 mile loop around the neighborhood is scenic and lush with irrigation during the summer months. The 2 fenced acres immediately north of the camping area are for your enjoyment. All of this and more, only 10 minutes from town. Please note that while good separation exists between your accommodations and our primary residence, you should expect to see and hear us around the property on occasion. Lastly, we are at the far corner of a 2 mile gravel loop, making the drive into our property slow and dusty - and also private!

Bonita had the place all warmed up when I arrived and sent detailed easy check in instructions. I was there for cozy solitude and the bunkhouse delivered. I cooked all my meals and the kitchen had everything I needed. Would be excellent as a pit stop for folks exploring and also folks like me wanting a quiet spot to read, write, and enjoy sitting by a fire. Check out was a breeze. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful spot and so quiet! The stars were incredible, the tiny house and bathroom were clean and tastefully decorated, cozy, and thoughtfully stocked with every convenience. The mattress was very comfortable! My favorite thing by far were the friendly kittens and other pets. We enjoyed a peaceful night's sleep under the pines and loved to hear the wild birds in the morning. The lava rock is beautiful. Hosts were kind and attentive. We are so grateful for their hospitality!

We stayed in the Bunkhouse. The listing definitely undersells how beautiful this place is. Super spacious, well appointed kitchen, super comfy everything, awesome hot tub, and animal friends! When we weren't relaxing or staring at the stars while having a soak, we got to know the cute critters that call this place home. Bonnie is a fantastic host and I love that the proceeds from our stay went to the sanctuary. We will definitely be staying again.

The site was tucked away and was a little hard to find, but once we were there it was great! The yurt was clean, comfortable and spacious. The bed was comfortable and Krystal was responsive to questions and helpful. It is a cool little site tucked into the lava flows. With the clear roof, we had a kind of scary but also beautiful lightning/thunder display over our heads for a few hours of the night. I think if it had been clear it would have been a fabulous view of the stars. We also enjoyed watching the antics of the poultry and the friendly kittens. One word of warning, the restroom is at the front of the site and the yurt is at the back, and it is an uneven hike at 2 am, so make sure you have a flashlight!

2 nights at Sunriver Camp Cabin

The little space was very cute and excellent for a girls trip! Close to Bend and plenty of hikes and lakes nearby. A nice neighborhood so we could go for walks every night. Sadly the cereal was very stale and the milk was expired. One girl drank it because she didn’t notice and did end up getting sick at the end of our trip. So check the dates, but otherwise a nice stay!

Great location for people who want to be in walking distance of the cute town of Sisters. It was easy to show up, set up camp, and then walk to everything we needed before retiring for the evening. Appreciated the access to the house for a bathroom, and the offer of shower, laundry, and food, even though we didn't need them this trip. Sweet dog Lily was a plus too. Campsite itself was as advertised and we were able to put up two tents and a hammock. Would come back.

Tina’s space was open and beautiful with plenty of space to setup camp. The check in process was a breeze, the location was easy to find, and she greeted us upon arrival. We setup by a little creek and loved being able to hear the water flowing. The open sky was picturesque. The offered shuttle service to and from the fairgrounds was extremely well run by Tina and company. I would recommend staying here and plan to stay here again if I go to next year’s festival. Everything felt efficient and very coordinated.

Notable campgrounds

Best for groups: Gull Point Campground has two group campsites for up to 30 people.
Best for anglers: Reservoir Campground offers direct access to the water.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations for the can be made directly through the Forest Service, either online using recreation.gov or over the phone. Campsites open up for reservation six months in advance, at 6 am.
The peak season runs from the end of May until the end of September. Outside of that time, campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you can’t find a spot at Wickiup, note that there are still tons of places to camp in the area, both in nearby state parks, on BLM land, and at privately run Hipcamps.

When to go

The best time to visit Wickiup Reservoir is in late spring or early autumn, when the weather is warm and dry and the crowds are fewer. July and August are also great months if you like warm weather, but the reservoir and area campgrounds can get very busy with summer vacationers. Accessing the area during the cold winter months can be challenging due to heavy snowfall.

Know before you go

The easiest place to pick up groceries and other supplies is the town of La Pine, about a half-hour drive from the reservoir.
Do not enter the water during cyanobacteria (harmful algae) blooms. The forest service puts out alerts about blooms, but it's always a good idea to do a visual check just in case. Water that looks foamy or thick and is a green, blue, or brownish-read color should be avoided.
Forest fires are an issue in this part of the forest, and bans on fires and even some types of cooking devices are not uncommon. Check before igniting anything.
