The water level in the Basin rose by several feet, permanently flooding many areas, and people who had made their homes there eventually moved to communities on the dry, western side of the levee--Henderson, Catahoula, Bayou Benoit and beyond--leaving no trace of the old settlements behind. Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island. We are only 3 miles from interstate 10 but we are a small remote camping village. Many hummingbirds visit here every year. They arrive in March and leave in Sept. Cute newly built one room cottage located in the heart of Mid City South near I-10/12 split. Tiny house has a separate bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. It is stylishly furnished with WIFI and TV that swings to outside covered patio area. The main room has a living space with a full sized (double) Serta pull out bed. There is also a kitchen space w/ a sink, microwave, toaster, fridge with freezer and an induction dual cooktop. Home is nestled in a peaceful garden with a deck and grilling area behind our home with a shared backyard space that includes a hot tub and covered area patio as well. The cabin and main house are located in great neighborhood -walking distance to shops, restaurants and a public park with tennis and beach volleyball courts.

Ginny and Scott were so warm and welcoming. They stayed up to greet us and show us to our room, and were very accommodating. We only stayed one night on our road trip, and the Room was super comfy and fully stocked. Would recommend.

Had a good time, it was very comfortable. Ginny was very kind and accommodating, including my requests related to mitigating emf sources. Everything was provided for, including a private ref and insights and tips about the area/vicinity. Its a great place to be outside of a big city and to see some of the water bodies in LA. The bird watching was very cool, and the rabbits too.

This place is amazing! The owners are the warmest, kindest people imaginable. Their property is full of birds, rabbits, and other fun critters. The RV was super comfortable and had everything we needed. Can't recommend this spot enough!

This was the perfect location for visiting friends and family from Abbeville, BR, NO, and lots of locations in between. The site itself is quiet and secluded while only being a few miles from stores and restaurants. And Damon is a wonderful host. He's available through the app if needed. Otherwise he leaves you to your own devices. Perfect! I look forward to my next trip down south

Camping at Horseshoe Bend was really nice. It’s right next to water. Very serene atmosphere. A lovely spot, if you’d like to get out of the city! Damon was very communicative, which I surely appreciated. If you’re looking for a quiet spot, out of the city but not TOO far, this is the spot to be in Baton Rouge!

Weekend Trip to Kickin' it in the Butte

Ginny and Scotty were very friendly and hospitable. I was on a friend's trip with 3 others. We rented the RV on site which was perfect for our overnight stay. The RV was so cute and had everything we needed. We went to Pat's for dinner and ordered Ginny's recommendation - the crab cakes and the seafood gumbo with okra - Delish! Before the stay, they answered many questions and were even ready to act as a shuttle for our kayak camping excursion on Bayou Berard. I would come back and have already recommended this place to others.
